Transmission Issue?

Hi All!

I discovered an issue while driving yesterday and I am wondering if it is related to the transmission. When I slow to stop in 2nd gear, I would feel a jolting movement as the car slips back to 1st or right after I make a full stop.

I have included a couple videos of the issue. When the car is slowing down and getting to around 730 rpm, the car jolts/vibrates. You can see the vibration if you look at my hand on the steering wheel. And if you have the volume up, you can also hear some noise the moment the car jolts.

As you can see, I just picked the car not long ago and has less than 100 miles on it. I am planning on taking it to the dealership next week for them to take a look. Just wondering if anyone here have experienced this before and know what may be the cause.

Thanks!

There is a TCU update that is recently available to address this, you can talk to your dealer for a software update.

Yes I have the same problem, but I have yet to send the car in for the update.

But a couple of my friends did and they reported back that the condition has improved and also the gear changes are now smoother as well.

The first screenshot is a Xentry readout from a stock car without any updates from Mercedes, and the second screenshot is a readout from a car right after it has been updated.

Program status for the stock car is reading d2g319aa40tx while the car that has been updated is showing d2g319aa41tx. My tuner is guessing that Mercedes probably addressed the jerkiness by increasing the torque control in the TCU.

Software version is also different as well, stock reads 724 902 05 01 and the updated car reads 724 904 04 02.

According to Mercedes service advisor, the updated was only released in the beginning of May, and they only would perform the update when they received complaints from the car owners.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing this, good to know! My issue seems to be happening less and less after my dealer performed a transmission reprogramming a few weeks ago, but I may still reach out to my dealer about this update. Let us know whether the update fixes the issue for you after you get it!

I was having a similar issue. For me, I would describe it almost as if the car was stalling just before coming to a complete stop. It doesn't happen all the time, but often. It's almost as if the start/stop is turning the engine off too soon (but the transmission still jolts even if start/stop is disabled).

I had to bring in my car for a bunch of issues, and since I was bringing it in anyway, I added the transmission jolt to the list of issues to look into. The SA informed me that they couldn't replicate the issue, and therefore they couldn't do the software upgrade because there needs to be documentation that there's a problem (e.g., a code or them replicating the problem).

I figured I'd deal with one issue at a time, with the current one being a potential problem with the engine. I'll keep you posted.

I just started getting this a few days go. Have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow so I'll ask about the TCU update.
