I recently purchased a brand new Mercedes A220 In Canada. I’ve had the car for a month and have had to take it in twice for service due to a malfunctioning thermostat (replaced both times). This seems to be an ongoing issue that has not yet been resolved. Warning light comes on advising to pull the car over immediately and turn off the engine. Has anyone else had this issue with their Mercedes? I’ve confirmed that this A220 was brought in from the US and built in Mexico.

the parts could have problem, i got A250, we have the same engine, but mine was build in Germany, my coolant temp always at 93 C, and so far i don't have malfunctioning thermostat. i got only 1900km on the car. what's your usual coolant temp when you see the warning light tell you to stop driving?Originally Posted by Aiellos

Had to bring my car back again with the same issue after having a new thermostat installed. The coolant temp is at the max (lit up in red) when the warning light activates. All 3 incidents have happened on the highway and pulled my car over immediately and turned off engine. Back at the dealership and I'm hoping they can come to a resolution.Originally Posted by vfxcxn0309

I purchased my vehicle from the Burlington, ON location. The car has been at the dealership for over a month with no true solve.

my A250 was from Burlington as well, but i bought it from Oakville MB, ( the car was transfer-ed from Burlington to Oakville, Oakville got better price for me.) first week, the brake master it out for replacement, and within 2000km, i found my turbo was leaking engine oil and burns oil, dealer replaced the turbo for me. i don't think it's design issue, but it's the quality of parts !!!!! that was build-ed from three party.
i think at your situation, you can ask for replacement of your car, ask for another one. if they have try to fix for three times.

I went to Oakville first and they offered a better price than Burlington. Wish I bought from their dealership as I find their customer service is much better. Burlington happened to have the vehicle I wanted and matched Oakville's offer.
I was told that MBB and Head Office came to a resolution and would provide me with the 2020 A220 since they do not have any 2019s left. When I went to the dealership they had the audacity to tell me that if I wanted the newer model it would cost be an extra $12k...which makes no sense when you compare both prices. I was sold a defective vehicle and deserve nothing less than a new vehicle in perfect working condition. Still no resolution and have not had my car since November 6th. Absolutely terrible experience with Mercedes Benz Burlington and their Mercedes Canada's Customer Service department.

They're trying to tell my car has depreciated in value. That sounds like an MBB problem and not mine. I was sold a defective vehicle and should have had a car replacement well over a month ago. Contact Mercedes Head office in Germany, Mercedes Canada is useless, send all Doc you have with your VIN number to Mercedes Germany, make a complain. and tell them what was happen.
i did that, it was worked for me. lucky my A250 has no problem so far ( But, i need to keep a habit to left the hood open every week and , spend 30min with flash light under the hood to check for leaking )
i was look at A220 before i choose A250, only reason was, the A250 was made in Germany, and even that, i got two problem under the hood. so.....

Hey VFX - What did Mercedes help with in Germany? I know there is MercedesUSA as well. Which should I reach out too? Do you think one of them would be better than the other? I honestly want to get my car replaced and try and get myself another 2019 Ram 1500 with same options as before. Or they upgrade me, either way - I'm done with the A-Class at least.
Can you provide me with the contact information and if possible, who you actually talked to? That will help a lot.
Thanks!

https://www.daimler.com/contact/ this is the place i made my complain about my brake issue. and just after two days, Mercedes Canada phoned me, ( i was missed the call, but they phoned me many times to say apologize, ) and during that time, my dealer have fixed my brake, and i got car back, so i didn't make more contact with Daimler, Mercedes is a company under the Daimler.
Make sure you have full story with Doc, provide your contact number anything you can provide. you VIN!
try it out. not sure it will work or not but you can try. Mercedes Canada and all dealer are just vending machine, to crash you.

My A220 AMG just did the same thing while driving on the highway this past weekend in California. However the engine was not hot to the touch but the coolant reservoir was boiling. I just got a Service B on 5/17.
I let the car sit for 12 hours and then drove it home the temp continued to go from hot to cold and started within the 20 minis of my travels. This morning I had to drive to work and it did the same thing temp went from hot to cold during my 19 minute ride to work on the highway.
It seems to be a water pump issue or a sensor issue waiting now for MB to call me back. This is the second major problem with this car. I had to have my car serviced because it was missing due to a engine gasket problem it took almost 4 weeks for the part to come from Germany.
I don'[t know if I want to continue leasing this vehicle I want something else.

I would suggest turning it in for a new model if it’s leased. I had purchased the 2019 A220 which is why they gave me a harder time with replacing the vehicle. The issue continued to persist and they eventually had to give me a brand new vehicle after SEVERAL promises that the issue was fixed. I now have the 2020 A220 and have not had issues since *knock on wood*Originally Posted by Jorri1229

Did this get resolved? My 2019 A220 is doing the same thing. Replace thermostat and water pump, still getting coolant malfunction pull over warning.
No, they were unable to resolve the issue. My brand new car sat at the dealership longer than I had it in my possession. I continued to have the same issue Each time it was returned.
I escalated the issue to Mercedes Benz Canada and global. The situation was an absolute nightmare, but I eventually was given a brand new Mercedes 2020 A220 after someone from head office met me at the dealership, gave their whole spiel as to how it was fixed and promised me it would not happen again. It happened again the NEXT DAY. I was always diligent at taking pictures/videos each time the issue arose. I text the pictures directly to the contact at head office, and contacted the dealership. Mercedes Canada agreed to give me a brand new Mercedes 2020 as there were no 2019 available. While I’m glad they did the right thing, it was such an awful experience. I’m not sure I will ever buy another Mercedes again.

Man sucks for me we purchased this car not even a years ago, and factory warranty just expired 3k ago. What also sucks is the sales guy told us it was a certified car so didn’t bother to buy extended warranty. Come to find out it’s not certified.

I was interested to see the post re: A Series thermostat. My wife's A200 2014 model with just 97,000kms on it, one owner, MB Service, failed us badly on a recent road trip. Got it back home to have thermostat issue diagnosed. Cost to replace thermostat - just on AUS$2,000. Nuts. Apparently the inlet & exhaust manifolds have to come off & 90% of the job is labour. My wife now drives a new Mazda.

Gday Deriggs007. Felt I had to respond to you following your Mazda post
. My wife's A200 thermostat has just failed (have just posted about it). Not good enough, Mercedes. So she now drives a new.... Mazda.

Had my issue resolved. One endy shop replaced the thermostat and the aux water pump. Did not fix issue So took to the Mercedes dealership and wanted $1200 U.S. dollars to further investigate the issue. So didn’t do that and ended up taking it to another endy shop that specializes in foreign/Mercedes and right away they knew it was the main water pump. Replace it and issue is fixed.
