Mercedes W169 A class, how do you remove the tailgate trim.

I need to remove the tailgate interior trim on my Mercedes A class to gain access to the Aerial Amplifier, does anyone know how to do this and where to start. Many thanks

No worries John, glad I could help!

I had the tailgate trim out recently (well, last August) to feed wires through the rubber conduit for reversing camera and rear dashcam, the aerial amp is on the right hand side (RHD car in the UK), if I'm not mistaken - once you get the trim out, you'll see it.

I've done a fair bit of mods and upgrades to my A200, will be happy to share.

Regards,
David

Mercedes A W169
Hi,

I have a question on the instruction "W169 WIS Rear Door Grab Handle.pdfW169 WIS Rear Door Grab Handle.pdf". How can I remove the catch hook (4) without breaking it? Do you have any hints?

I have a broken plastic part keeping the bolts inside and the whole part is loose. I need to disassembly it and glue it or something. Also any hints with that?

Thanks,
Michal

Is your car pre- or facelift?

It's a bit tighter on the pre-facelift models, but essentially - just pull steadily: these are flexible enough (when warm). This time of the year, you might want to use a hairdryer or hot air gun briefly.

Not sure which plastic part you've broken? The one that sits inside the metal, and holds the screw in (called dowel), or the part(s) of the actual tailgate handle itself?

The former can, and should be replaced by new ones - only £1.20 direct from Mercedes for all four - part number A0009984685

The latter, on the other hand, might be a problem to fix. I'd say either Araldite or JB Weld or similar, but adhesion might be questionable. Maybe treat the area with acetone-based solvent just prior to adding epoxy, to soften the ABS plastic.
If possible, I'd get a new tailgate handle (well, I did for my car). If yours is pre-facelift, and you buy a facelift handle, you'll need a wiring adaptor - A1695403135 - about £12 from Mercedes here in the UK.

Sorry for a late response, I had some hand injury and couldn't drive for some time anyway. The time has come to fix things. I replaced some broken elements. I was able to reassemble whole part according to "W169 WIS Rear Door Grab Handle.pdfW169 WIS Rear Door Grab Handle.pdf". Somehow though these dowels (A0009984685) don't keep the tailgate handle bar still. It falls apart, as these dowels loosen/fall out from the metal. Do you have any clue what might cause it and how to fix it?

What is the rule behind these dowels? Does it work like wall plugs or what makes them keep still inside metal part?
