Wireless Carplay

Read only that 2019 A220 were supposed to have this but wanted to know if there are any updates? I picked a configuration without navigation but it’s annoying to connect a cable each time when my Mini has had this feature for three years

Not yet available. It probably won't even come. That said, what you could do is connect a Bluetooth wireless adapter to that port and then connect to it with your phone which will allow you to use it wirelessly, unfortunately, it will be sticking up out of the USB port. I forget the name of the product that would enable this though.

MB has said they would make it available with a software update to MBUX. I've heard no timeline for the US market, though. Europe was gonna get it first and I've heard summer 2019 thrown out at one point, but no idea if they actually delivered on that. My understanding is that there is some lag with wireless CarPlay, so the experience isn't optimal. There are a couple of dongles that have come to market recently, though. They plug in to the USB port and provide wireless CarPlay support after establishing a Bluetooth connection from the phone to the dongle instead of MBUX. These supposedly work with any CarPlay enabled system. I'm considering getting one and see how well they work.

Let me know if you guys are doing anything in the interim while you wait. It’s a pain to plug in if you don’t have the native application and you’re somewhere new and need to get around.

I only use CarPlay occasionally for specific situations. My 2019 C63 doesn't have MBUX, but I have the built-in navigation which I use most of the time, especially for ad-hoc navigation while I'm already out there driving. I agree plugging-in the phone on the go is a pain. I generally find my destinations on my phone, and then just send it to the car via Bluetooth while in the car, or over the Internet before getting in the car, and then a notification pops up in the car and I can conveniently start the route guidance. But if you don't have the built-in navigation, then wireless CarPlay would essentially provide similar convenience w/o having to fumble with a cable every time. You might just wanna plug in the phone as soon as you get in the car, so it's always ready.

For me I honestly use since 3 cars built-in nav. Earlies Seat Leon 5F and Renault Clio 4 ( car from my work ) and MBA2504M ( which is pretty good, Live Traffic with Internet ). Didnt occured any problems with roads even my MB navi got road that it isnt even on project build and will be probably builded in near future..

My brother's 2019 M4 has it but it seriously drains the battery and he ends up keeping his phone plugged in anyways. It would be a very cool feature to have, although the new iphone batteries are excellent and I find I really only charge my phone on my way to and from work, and not at night.

It only makes sense in combination with wireless charging. If your brother's M4 doesn't have a wireless charging pad, then it's kinda pointless, other than for very short drives.
