Must sell my 2000 CLK430 Cab in S. Cali

I know it is heresy, but my wife wants an S class. I went to the dealer who made me a terrible trade offer on the CLK and they gave me two weeks to try to sell it myself. I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by offering it here. It is in absolute pristine condition, purchased new and serviced only at my local dealer, no big problems - dashboard replaced for common seam problem and NAVI-Radio replaced (which is good cause I got the latest database). I have all paperwork from the 5 total visits to the dealer. Otherwise this car has been perfect and never as much as a scratch. This car is a blast to drive. I'll trade it if I need to but it hurts to see the dealer steal it from me and list it for $49K. Details:

Brilliant Silver, Black top
21K miles - only driven in nice weather
New tires put on at 17K miles (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S which should yield longer wear than original Michelin Pilot Sport)
Has every option imaginable - NAV, phone, voice command, xenons, rain sensing, AMG wheels, heated seats, etc.
Still in warranty for a big 3 weeks
Best offer over $38K this week. I'm in Poway, CA 92064

...........really nice car with low miles. And in California and being a cab should fetch high dollar. However, if you got an offer for $38K, you should take it.

Ted, thanks. Are you a dealer? Sounds like it.

I got an offer of $36K from the dealer and I will take it if I have to, but it will sting a bit. I've got till Saturday the 24th. Any suggestions on where else to advertise it? SDGuy

Hey thanks. That is great info. Is that sort of info available on the web? Do those numbers include the various options, preferred colors etc? As you know the NAV, voice command, phone, xenons added about $9K to the new vehicle. So I definitely will try to twist the dealers arm a little harder. This ain't no auction car! Appreciate it. Nope, you have to have access and be a subscriber. Unfortunately the auctions really don't count anything but the basics. Options therefore are iffy. Its all up to the individual. Therefore what you like in terms of color, etc may not be what someone else likes. You won't get more for these. Good luck.

BTW, don't you get a salestax credit on a tradein?

However, i think private party cars should carry a higher value since the auctions cars are usually lease returns or repos...if i was a used car buyer, i would definitely prefer to buy it from a private owner with all the records rather than from the auction or the dealer aka the stealer....

Good Point, Don't you think privately owned car's are a little more cared for than the cars that are leased? i.e. Waxed, washed, less dents, dings etc...... At least that is what I have noticed in my area.

Let's put it this way, if my car was leased, i wouldn't care for break-in period, waxing or anything else extra but just the minimal care so that the car would still run since it is just a long term rental....i would probably treat it like a rental car and make sure i return it in one piece...ppl may deny it but that's just human nature imho....

I highly recommend switching to the Pilot Sport A/S rather than the OE Pilot Sport. Mercedes puts the softer tires on to sell the car, but 17K miles is all I got. The Sport A/S are supposed to last far longer and the handling was not noticeably dimished.

So 3 days left to make me an offer on my CLK 430 Cab

Well, the dealer got my CLK yesterday. But I decided not to buy a new car from them since the guy had an attitude when I asked for an additonal $1K. He said that taking in my car had nothing to do with buying a new $90K S class from them. I grabbed his check and took him for his word. I then went and bought an Infiniti FX SUV with every imaginable option for half the $90K! $200 over invoice BTW. And the handling and NAV are very impressive. SDGuy
