Mercedes Me Connect

I just received a letter in the mail from Mercedes. It's a notice that they want to do an Over the Air Update (OTA) and I can either Opt-Out or do nothing to be opted-in after March 2.
It says I have No Active Mercedes Me Connect Subscription but it will do the OTA anyway. However, it says that to ensure the vehicle is always up-to-date that I should create a Mercedes-Me-Connect account and pair my vehicle.
I logged into it, it looks like the app, it shows all the car information and the Active Digital Extra and it shows Mercedes-Benz Connect that you can buy for $15 a month, that looks like it's a package for all the digital extras, but mine say on all but 3 or 4 of them, Digital Extra already purchased, term ends 11/14/25.
Am I missing something. It appears that I already have Mercedes-Benz-Connect for a year after the day I bought my car?

Anyone know about this?

Yes, a 1-year complementary subscription is included with the car. Make sure it has been correctly activated by your sales person. Can you control things from the app on your phone, like remote started the engine, remote lock/unlock etc. and see the status of the car?

Then it's maybe just a standard letter template they sent out that was phrased poorly or they sent you the wrong letter. Wouldn't worry about it.

Gotcha. Thank you!
I didn't know they need to notify you of an Over the Air Update. I thought it just happened whenever there's an update

Notices go out if it's a recall. There have been a few recalls lately that were resolved via an OTA update. More and more recalls are software bugs, so they don't need a mechanic to replace or check parts. Instead they fix the bug and push out an OTA update, but since it's a recall, read safety issue, they'll have to notify you.

OTA updates sure beat the old days of having to bring it to service for them

I got the letter today. I would be nice to know what problem is being fixed or what, if any, new features there might be other than the sated “quality-enhancing optimizations and product improvements.”

I have a W214 E-Class and I got a similar letter in the mail. I've got the app working and I can access all my information ever since I took delivery last July. Not sure what this is about, maybe I'll send MBUSA a message.

I got an alert in the app today that the over-the-air update is now available.

"Software update for the communication module"

"....This includes the implementation of product improvements and augmented robustness..."

I wasn't sure what "augmented robustness" meant - so I looked it up:
"Augmented robustness" refers to the concept of improving a model's ability to handle diverse and unexpected inputs by applying data augmentation techniques during training

I haven’t received a message yet, either in the car or the app. Is there any information in the message about what the update contains? Or any noticeable changes when you install the update?

Nothing of substance....update is free, takes about 15 minutes and happens in the background. Update becomes effective the next time you start the car.

I haven't done the install yet...

It's installed on my car. There's nothing different that I can see so far. I think it was to make it possible for them to do a future software update.

The communication module gets regular updates. It's mostly so that it works properly with any potential network changes that the carriers implement. Mobile phones also regularly get carrier updates to tweak the radio settings for the cellular networks or updates to the eSIM. I got the most recent two both in 2023 and there was another one in 2021. That one was actually a recall to fix an issue in the SOS system where during an accident it would send the wrong location under certain circumstances.
