CLE 300, Slow to accelerate from a stop

Hey all,

In my first Merc, coming from a 2015 Manual transmission Audi A5 - I never thought I would get rid of this car and give up manual transmission, but I really fell in love w/ the design of the CLE.

Anyway, one thing I'm finding weird compared to all my previous cars which were always manual, is it feels like the car takes a few seconds to respond when I press on the gas when starting from a complete stop. I end up pressing harder on the gas and then the car lurches forward faster than I want when it does start moving.

I know I don't have 53 or anything, but my previous cars didn't have this much HP, and also didn't have this response lag.. Do I just need to keep it in sport mode all the time? Am I missing something obvious? Is this just the way of automatic transmission cars? Or maybe just the 300 trim level?

Thanks for your time!

Are you experiencing the auto stop/start feature that kicks in when you bring the car to a complete halt? It’s only a slight hesitation but I find it annoying and routinely disable it on my 53 as part of my startup routine.

There is a button beside the ignition button.

First clue would be the tach at zero while you are stopped.

Also if you’re in comfort mode it’s gonna assume you want a more relaxed and calm acceleration until you press the accelerator passed a certain point. Then it will lurch as the car is saying “oh, you really want to go”. If plan to do more spirited driving I recommend running in sport or sport plus.

I think this is definitely part of it too, I had been leaving it in comfort mode - will try leaving it in sport, thank you!

Just make sure the fluids are at the operating temperature first before driving spiritedly to avoid damage.

Sadly, on non amg models, you can't find the transmission temperature unless you plug a scanner in. I say if in the summer say 86F, drive at least 15 minutes to get the fluids up before driving in sport. Although that is just the general idea, does not guarantee 15 minutes, the temperatures are at operating temperature. The coolant will reach operating temperature the quickest, the second will be engine oil, the last will be transmission temperature. In winter, it can take 30-45 minutes to get the transmission temperature to operating temperature.

My main concern is the stress with cold fluid on the transmission when in sport especially in sport+ that the transmission have to "grind" on metal on metal when shifting.

Don't worry about it. Just take it easy for the first few minutes.
