Anyone using or know the best protection from RED Light OR Speeding camera??? Those cameras are everywhere in Wash DC and surrounding cities.
I'm sitting on more than $250.00 in fines. One is a $150.00 fine 37 in a 25mph zone.... H E E E L P ! ! ! !
I didn't even realize I've gotten 3 tickets while going to/coming from work until yesterday.

Yea, DC is FULL of camera's. So are Montgomery and Fairfax counties. Anyways, theres some spray you can buy and spray on your liscence plates. When the camera takes a picture all it sees is a flash of light. Cant read the tags!

d2 - I live in same area as you. If you haven't already, take your front plate off. Va. law requires front tags (I don't know about DC and MD) but the only time I've been cited for not having one is as an add-on to a parking ticket. And no front tag, at lease in Va., is not a moving violation. Besides, car looks a whole lot better w/out front tag. Even though most intersections equipped with the cams are rear shot systems I was flashed from the front once and never received a citation for that instance.

I've seen ads for the spray benzz' talking about but haven't spoken to anyone who has tried it. There's usually an ad in the back of Road & Track for the spray. They also sell a license plate cover that's clear from straight on but when viewed from an angle obstructs your tag number. I have seen one mounted on a car and it's true that you can't see the id info from an angle - but I think you'd get plulled over on the roll for this.

IMO the best you can do is get a tinted rear plate cover. I have one that's not so dark that I'm going to get pulled over for it but I think that the tint, plus the glare that the curved plastic of the cover probably generates, might foil some of the cams - some of the time.

I have a tinted rear plate and have been told by the peace officers that it's not allowed....but I'm not too sure if it protects against the damn cameras.

Like LowPhat said, try the one in the back of Road & Track, but the cops will say someting about that too.

3M has come out with a new provacy filter screen for laptops that's thin, see through and meant for laptop screens....basically a plastic film that you can't view anything at angles from. Look into those and telll me what you think.

DC and MD require front tags as well. I also received a ticket for not having tags cuz of a parking violation in DC. I got pulled over once for it too,. I had my tag in the window and the cop said it had to be in the center of the car so I slid the tag to the center of the window and I said "What about now?" and he said it has to be on the bumper but he did let me go and gave me compliments on my car.

Thanks for the responses. I don't make running red lights an habbit. its happened to some OR most of us be4, when U accidentally run a light. The speeding tickets I got was from the same road...3 tickets...Its NOT even a residential road. It was an open 4 way lane (2 and 2)....
I will try the spray....but I guess it has to be applied after each wash and each time it rains.

cheers!!!

i used to live in loudoun county and i traveled through and around fairfax and dc a lot. my mom got pulled over one time for not having a front tag but the officer gave her a ticket for not having a seatbelt. i think the front tag law is something officers invoke when they're nearing the time limit for tickets where they need to make their quotas.

the best thing to do IMO is to just not run red lights, as much as that might slow you up.

good luck!
