Well my CLK is due for a new set of rears so I've been calling around some local dealers with the following result:

225/45 ZR 17

Toyo Proxies £82
Avon ZZ3 £96.35
F1’s £110.95
Pilot Sport (same as the front) £146.95

The car is OEM suspension + rims.

How do these tyres compare in a grip\ wear \noise equation?
Anybody have any other suggestions?

In terms of grip in the rain - the Toyo Proxes T1S is the way to go.... Ride is soo much smoother as well. I had the stock 17's with continental tires and the ride was nowhere as close to as smooth as my ride is now on 19! yes 19 inch rims with Toyo Proxes. I have not had a bad experience with the grip of the tire on turns and I tend to take them at an speed which is not conducive to most cars... Toyo is the way to go - Big fan...

correct me if i'm wrong but I thought the rear tire size was 245's not 225's. By the way, whats the widest I could go on the stock AMG rims? I have ALOT of trouble with traction. If I stomp on it it just keeps spinning. I am thinking supercharger if I dont sell my car by the end of the summer but without proper traction its pointless.

I've seen as much as 10's in the back (unless i am being fooled by spacers)
This looks about right - that b|tch is looking mighty dumpy from this angle.... dont think you'll lose traction very often with these riding behind you...

how long have you had your 19's on staten island? you havent had any blow outs, cracked or bent rims? i cracked a 17" chrome amg on forest hill road after being forced to hit a crater.

heres what nyc roads did to my 18" lorinser lm5's last year, im actually supposed to get them back on tuesday from california. i sent them out to get fixed and refinished with a polished lip. dont mind all the dirt, dust and **** all over the wheels, they were in a outdoor shed and some fertilizer or some **** fell on them.











when i get the wheels back on tuesday, ill post some pics of the refinished wheels

In all honesty i have already bent one rim and i ended up replacing it for a new one... BUT... it was on I-95 on the way down from my sisters graduation in bubble f|_|ck nowhere and i was goin about 95mph and out of nowhere goin over a small hill a crater showed up and i had no way out... BANG - thats that story... but it wasnt the city that did it to me - I am just very wary - i park about a foot from the curb (might come back to bite me in the ace when my sideview mirror gets clipped) and i just look out for any potholes lookin to ruin my style... its a pain - slows me down just a tad but its worth the look...

I meant how wide of a tire can I get on the stock AMG rims. I have 9.5" (265/30/19) wide rims in the rear for my 19's but the 19's are too heavy for the track. I still lose traction when I punch it with the 19's on though, just nowhere near as much.

I think it depends on the wheel fitment ,the Avantgarde was 225's

Thanks! I've got Toyo's on another car (FIAT Bravo 155), I was concerned how they performed on a heavier car.

And @ £82 all in and being close to half the cost of the Pilots I think it’s a done deal on the Toyo’s
