1999 CLK320 Blk/Blk with stupid options that are not used like sunshade
Take my CLK and shove it!

I'm sick of my '99 CLK320. I've had countless problems with it. It's been in the shop for over a month in a 3 year lease. The goddam check engine light has been on at least 20% of the time I've owned it (except for the time that the engine was really broken - figure that one out).
I'm not gonna fork over $$$ for another goddam Chrysler.
7000 miles, tires need replacing (I don't drive fast or agressively)
3 times, O2 sensor broke
1 time, fuel sensor
buzzing speakers (whole life of the goddam car)
sunroof motor broke (the 3rd and LAST time I used it)
windows still don't work (always think my arm is in the way)
transmission dialed in WRONG from factory
driver's seat replaced (moved around when i accelerated)
vanity light broke
3 times trunk release latch broke
subwoofer replaced
timing belt got loose

To top it off, a month before my lease is up, I had to take the damn car in for a 20K service. What do they do? An oil change, wiper fluid refill, for $500. That is BS! $70 for oil? Right? I don't care if it's synthetic or made from olives, $70 for 5 quarts? What do you take me for, a COMPLETE IDIOT? Well, I may have been an idiot for getting this car. BUT THAT'S ONE GODDAM MISTAKE I DON'T NEED TO REPEAT!

Honestly, if I want quality and service this crappy, I'll get an American car. No more rebadged Chryslers for me.

I just went in for my A Service....and I purchased the car used...with 7000 miles on it.

My service was free of charge....including the oil change.

That is horrible. I have had a 1998 Clk320, 1999 Clk430, '00 430, '01 430, '02 430, and getting an '03 2005. I have never had any REAL issues. Very minor things that were covered and fixed quickley. Sorry to hear that.

Of course you don't have problems, Benzo, you move through cars like some people eat potato chips!

You know they have gas stations - when your dash light comes on you don't have to trade the car in!

just kidding!

We have had very few problems with our ML (actually, just one and it was fixed quickly), and none with the C32 so far.

I only put about 4-5k miles on my benz per year b/c it isn't my daily driver. Its funny you should say that b/c when I traded my last one in, (black 430) people were already looking in the window when I parked because it looked so glossy and it was the only 430 there. When I came outside to take my things out of my trunk and learn how to use the navi on the '02, some guy askes my salesman why I was getting rid of it- he replie b/c my ashtray had crumpled up receipts in it.

I have been buying a new one every year b/c the availability was so narrow here and the values really held. When I bought one I put a deposit down on the next. My bank lets me do interest only loans, so I still have the equity from my first 320 carrying forward and my interest only payments are about 250/mos (fully deductible). Therefore I bought my 98clk320 for about 46,500 with tax and paid cash and I've been using that as my equity going further. I figure I have paid about 12k in payments over the last 4 years and I still have about 36k in equity on my car which is about to be traded on a CLK500. I find a buyer for my car then complete the transaction at the dealership for $500 and I get a better price plus the tax break.

I am not that silly- but I do like getting new cars. (I also had a SL500 when I had the 2001 CLK430) This time I am keeping it for a while so I can make some mods to it!!!

I love it when people say M-Bs are Chryslers. Sorry, but every part in your '99 CLK was designed and probably manufactured before the DaimlerChrysler merger took place (Jan 1, 1999). Only just now are Mercedes and Chrysler working on joint projects.

Your car is 100% Mercedes-Benz. Nobody else to blame.

Benzo,

I've been doing something like you, just not as quickly.

1988 Porsche 911 (bought in 96 for 25K)

Sold for $23K in 2000, bought a 1997 993.

Traded in (and almost paid for) my C32 AMG in 2001

Thinking hard about trading it on a W211 E55 AMG next year.

It's nice having cars that keep their value!

Getting a little off the thread track, though, I suppose ...

Willwork,

You've got me confused, you're complaining about a $70 oil change? I know you don't have free maintenance, that program began in 2000. However, your 99 takes about 9qts, and the factory makes the dealer use Mobil-1. So figure you need $40-50 just in parts, how much labor are you willing to pay?

WillWorkForDurgs,

Hey Dude,

Did you buy your car new or used?

Could you have bought someone elses problem?

For some reason I hear less problems with the 430 model.

Maybe try trading.

Did you take the time to alert the Service Manager at your dealership about this?

Ok, I misstated, JUST THE OIL cost $70 for 5 quarts (so they said). I also got billed for the labor separately. Total was about $500...including $15 for windshield washer fillup...

I got it new... I just got really pissed after the last fiasco with the fanbelt/timing belt (whatever it was). Considering I've brought it in for over 1 month total out of service time on 12 separate occasions, don't you think I can get a little irritated?
