Official CLK Picture Thread

This is the "Official" CLK Picture Thread. Please post all pictures of your CLK's, this is better than browsing all the different websites looking for CLK pictures and going to all the different galleries and clicking on each picture and hitting the back button! It will be nice to just come here and scroll down the page. Also please only post pictures of your CLK, it doesn't matter if you own a 320, 430, 55, or even some custom one! Let's try and keep this thread mainly pictures, and if you have a question about someones CLK that you see please PM them.

Thanks, and let the picture posting begin!

it still needs a body kit but I have had 3 different set of wheels on this and to me these Lowenhart LD1's take the cake. It also has a 7" panasonic flip screen dvd up front , two monitors in each head rest and PSII. I know its only a 430 but that was the best they had in 00' , but my other car is a 02 M3 if any of you 55 guys wanna go.
P.S. this ones for sale in june when my new sl arrives, first 50K takes it.

Ahmed- Sweet ride, my friend. Those rims are great- are they amg? What size?

Benzo

CS1946 04-15-2002 03:10 PM

Benzo; Do you ever actually take your $70K Range Rover off road, or are those brush guards just for looks like I suspect they are on most SUV's? I'm not trying to be obnoxious, I'm just curious if Range Rover owners actually use these cars for what they were designed.

Don't get me wrong--I don't generally like SUVs, but I love Range Rovers. If I had to get an SUV in any price range, I'd get the newest Rover I could afford. I have a friend in Newport Beach, CA who has something like a '90. Sweet car..er..SUV.

PS: I wouldn't take mine off road!

Ahmed 04-15-2002 05:44 PM

I hear what you are saying- I actually purchased this car used w/ 20,000 miles on it- Got it for the price of a loaded discovery. I bought it to pull my boat b/c it has a 7,000 lb towing capacity. I have to admit that I would have added the brush guards, etc, but they came with the vehicle. The extent of the off roading is pulling up to projects I am working on- and the off road capabilities are amazing. Most use them as $70k grocery getters!

CS1946 04-16-2002 06:54 PM

Benzo, I forgot you could use SUV's to pull boats and other heavy objects. Good point! Have fun with the truck. It's a shame that these vehicles cannot be taken off road more (at least not unless you have multiple Range Rovers!), since they're so expensive and nice

Ahmed 04-17-2002 08:04 PM

LOL !!!

Yes there is... indeed there is. And it's a quite a work of art!! It's 25 km long!

Bahrain is an island about 700 sq km. and has a population of just over 600,000! And ALOT of CLK's !!!!

I just visited the dealers this morning and had the privilage of sitting and cranking a brand new 2002 CLK 240! IT SUCKED !!! There was nothing that striked me about it..... I'd give it a 7 compared to the 10/10 of the W208

DapperBNZ 04-17-2002 10:10 PM

Ahmed, is the new W209 a 2002 model year car over there??? It's a model yr 2003 over here !! And I agree with you, the car looks awful. That's why I went ahead and got my '02 CLK 430. Hopefully in 3 Yrs, they would have worked out the kinks and added a bit more aggresive cosmetics to the car. Right now, it looks like a car that you would put a Tux on for and then go eat dinner at a posh restaurant or something. If there is no "aggressive" cosmetic change in the near future, then I'll get the 2005 CLK 550 AMG.

By the way, why don't people know Bahrain ???? It's only the 2 or 3rd RICHEST COUNTRY in the world per capita / population !! Come on guys, did you skip 7th grade Geography or 12th grade World history??? Or better yet, have you bought any petrol (gas) lately????? Hint, Hint,.... !!!!!!

Ahmed, let us know when you get the CL or SL!!

Ahmed 04-18-2002 03:52 AM

The W209 is a 2002 model. It's here and and it's azuri blue with light cream interior. The worse thing about it was that thing that creeped up behind my shoulder when I started the car. I thought MB got rid of that, but I guess it's back! ( I'm talking about that seatbelt thing) It scared the hell outa me!

The CL is too mature for me. And the SL... well... let's just say that i'm not ready to spend that kind of cash right now!

I'm attaching some pics of the interior. The reason why i was reluctant to post them was because the camera i used was realy bad and the lighting was'nt that great either, so these pics don't do justice to the actual color and contours. But hey, what the heck huh, anything for my benz buddies!

no pics but i was in russia last year visitn my cousin i looked into benzo well a i went lorinser dealer

it seems like they offer way more like tota interior change from seats to door panels i saw few, they were very sweet and the prices were much better. lorinser lm1 19 " in chrome would cost about 800 dollars each where in US they start at 1050

i guess it is eazier to import more variety car to other states then to US

i dont think thats fair to think how many benzos they sell in US

Ahmed i like that shift knob its tight

also Ahmed ya'll bumb 2pac in middle east????

Sweet color Ahmed, I want it!! I originally was going to purchase a designo CLK which was similar to yours but it seemed to change colors from different angles and had 2 tone purple and charcoal seats. It was a 2001 and I was all set to buy it till I realized the car didnt have a damn sunroof  but anyways this post isnt about me rather than congratulating you on a beautiful car!

Thanks, as for the MagnaFlow muffler, I don't feel any performance improvement because I only have the muffler. If you wish to hear how the muffler sounds like, please visit my website www.LowRydeR.cjb.net under profile section there's a link to a vid I took.

I don't have the GT1 Fiberwork(Carlsson RS kit) rear bumper because it was damaged so I couldn't put them on, Evosport has reordered one for me but they're not sure if it'll come. There's a rear shot on Evosport.com>Gallery>CLk320 RS GT1.

Mark,
That's a tough question to answer. If it's nice out, the NSX is the car! Both are fun.....but different.
The CLK rides better since the NSX is prepped for the track.
I think I'll go home early and drive the NSX!!
As long as there's 3 letters in the car name it's good.

1 Attachment(s)
OK, I have a 430 and have the opportunity to get Kleemann 18"x8.5 front and 18"x9.0 rear at a similar price to AMG Monoblocks. However. I doo like the chunky look of the AMG's and can't decide what to get:confused:

CLKfanDB, have you got a side on pic of your car?

Might help me decide!

What do you think guys? AMG Mono's style II or Kleemann 5 spokes similar to these 19" ones in this picture of a W209.

Please help me decide;)

Goldeni245 07-15-2002 01:24 PM

I personally like the AMG's better.

IMO, the chunky look of the AMG's appeal to me more...these Kleemann rims look too complicated, the AMG's are simple and clean.

DapperBNZ 07-16-2002 12:04 AM

AMG v. Kleemans

Big mistake fudger!! You are comparing apples with oranges when you try to compare wheels on a w208 and w209. Don't forget that the 208 has a more musculer and aggressive appeal; therefore the "clean" look of the AMG's work well. As opposed to the 209 which is very "sleek" and "feminine" (no pun intended ladies) It needs something to make it more aggressive, therefore the Kleemans look better on the 209's.

Personally, I would go for the AMG's. The Kleeman's on a 208 will definately look too busy!! My 2cents !!! Dont spend it all in one place !!

fudger 07-16-2002 07:19 AM

Your absolutely right of course. The W209 is a different car and much more feminine. The AMG's, as you sad, seem to go well with the W208 which is why I favour them too.

The reason for my indecision was purely cost as I can get the Kleemanns for the same price as the AMG's through a friend as a one off special favour. Next week the offer won't be there.

I do wonder of the 19" AMG's are too big for the W208! My head tells me to get 18's my heart the 19's.

Stop it........must go 18"

DapperBNZ 07-17-2002 09:30 PM

18" v. 19"

Good decision!! I replaced my stock 17" AMG's with 18" OZs. The advice I got from the "wheel & tire" forum (or what ever that forum is called) was to stay away from 19's. Big problem with front rubbing. Unless you are ready to do a lot of adjustements.

Enjoy you AMGs !!!

It has every option, including telephone, except for the xenon/headlight washer/heated seats (I forget which K package that was). Oh it's a '99 w/ 58k miles.

Edit: Suspension is H&R sport springs and Bilstein shocks.

how do you define 'rycey'???

but then again, its really a matter of opinion... some of us like the dropped/slammed look, and noisier exhaust notes... it doesn't necessarily make it 'ricey'

its all about customization... driving a car that you feel is unique and one of a kind... not a stamped clone from the factory

thats how i feel

i had to decide between these, the brabus V's, and

What about the springs? Or are you just getting the Kleemmann speed sensitive shocks and not the springs? Think you should get the springs too os it's a matched set. Just my 0.02

Thanks! Id say the pictures make them look a bit small, also my car hasnt been lowered yet, so that also makes the rims look smaller. I am painting my calipers on Saturday, and getting the suspension, then the rims will be PERFECT!

I would definitly only paint the calipers red. thats the best color for them. how are you planing on doing it? spray or brush on? i would only reccomend the G2 brush on paint, spray will never look neat. The G2 Paint also looks and feels as if it was powder coated on there and will basicly last for ever.

here is a picture on my C230.......................i have better ones but this sucks.

I hope this in not illigal to post a picture of a C230 in the CLK thread. :)

for now i am going to use plasic bags, newspaper, tape, and spraypaint, if i dont like it, im going to touch it up with brush on instead of laboring for hours to paint it. This is just a temporary deal as i may not have my car for as long as i had planned. Im also smoking my tail lights i believe this weekend. But it looks like a '02 CLK55 is in my near future, cant turn that down!

then forget the brakes period! and get the CLK55 already!:D
well if you do use spray just make sure its neat, i have seen some half ass crappy jobs with spray, so just do it good.

itll be neat, im a perfectionist, dont worry, im anal about stuff like that....

No the 430 is not fast enough.....fast, but i like acceleration that scares me when i punch it, haha. Put the pulleys, headers, exhaust (minus i a couple but oh i love that eisenmann rumble), and when i get another car, ill save up some money and put a Kleemann on the 55, because i wont have to drive it every day....so now you know my plans....:)

Hmmmm...I think I am going to paint black the chrome pins above and under the star, to see how it looks...I wish they would have made this star a little bigger, to cover the whole grill, but this one is almost there, much bigger than before, the star alone measures 5 inches.

Viktorious, what kind of modifications did they do to fit those 19" CL AMG's in your car. I spoke with Luke@Tirerack, and he told that they don't fit the CLK because the ofset and fitment is different.:)

braincuttermd 12-19-2002 09:31 PM

Hey Viktorious

Where did you get the black 3-pointed Star enblem on your trunk? Is that a custom job (I noticed your front grill is black too) or did you buy the black star?

I started a thread a few months ago about black emblems and hood ornaments. Somebody said that a Lorinser shop in Hong Kong had them, but my sis couldn't find it when she visiting HK last month!

I'm toying with the idea of putting a black hood ornament, black CLK 430 and black star emblems on my black 01 430.

By the way, love your rims!

Thanks guys, I used my Nikon Coolpix 2500, this camera doesn't have the the option to adjust shutter speed or take explosures. No flash was used in those pix, I used "night landscape" mode to take the pix. I didn't change anything except shriking the pix and add border and my name.

question about your K&N Filter

It was a 2001 and I was all set to buy it till I realized the car didnt have a damn sunroof  but anyways this post isnt about me rather than congratulating you on a beautiful car!

How do you like your K&N Filter. Do you think it added horsepower?

Ahmed 12-31-2002 02:18 AM

thanks James55.. I'll try to post some pics of my bro's 911 GT3 later on.. especially for you my friend!;)

As for the filter, I would'nt really know if it added HP's, I haven't really timed the prformance before and after! All I know for a fact is that the very initial throttle response has improved. I can feel the initial pull a bit more.

I dont know about US Spec 320's, but I've managed to get to 100 kph in just under 7 seconds, and clocked a top speed of 250 kph. maxing out at 5000 rpm.

But the best thing about it is the sound! When stationary, I floor the pedal just a little and it whistles like a turbo! And when driving, it sounds like a true german beast!

I recommend the K&N Filter, it lets ur benz engine breeeeeeeeeeeeeeth!

BlackBaby 01-07-2003 01:37 AM

thx Bruce.. It was everything that you had introduced me to F1 motorsports.

Anyway, when are you going to post your new pictures with new rims?

Ahmed 01-07-2003 02:04 AM

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!

Is that a reflection or an actual silver tint?

Whichever, the car looks daaaaaaaaaamn fine!

BlackBaby 01-07-2003 02:08 AM

Honestly, I don't know. I just had re-tinted my window and they look like mirror tinting (gives the reflection) at daytime and just look normal black at night time.

I didn't intentionally bought this film to look like mirror tinting... The window gets darker and gives more reflection as sun shines.

braincuttermd 01-07-2003 03:29 PM

Man, Black Baby

THose 19" Lorinsers look sick! I don't usually mod my rides, but maybe I'll start shopping for some 19" rims. Did you lower your car?

Mike

BlackBaby 01-07-2003 05:01 PM

Don't like my car, braincuttermd??? :D :D

Actually, I was going to sell those rims, but no one wanted... so I just put them onto my car. It looks nice, though I like LM-5 better. If you are shopping for 19" rims, go for Lorinser LM-5 or Brabus V Multipiece.

And YES, I did lowered my car by 2 inches w/ H&R sport springs. I have bought Lorinser scoop and spoiler, and will be installed within couple weeks. I will post some pictures later when everything is done.

I am looking to buy Lorinser front spoiler, but they are DAMNNNNN expensive.... Hope someone can sell theirs for $1K

braincuttermd 01-07-2003 06:32 PM

You should definitely keep the LM1s on your car. They look amazing. I went online looking at prices on them and man, they are expensive!

Yeah, I love the Lorinser front airdam too. I always thought that the AMG front for the CLK was a bit plain.

Did you also change the shocks, or just springs? How did your ride change? I swapped out the stock springs for eibachs on a BMW 5-series back in the days and the ride suffered (too bouncy) without a noticeable improvement in handling.

What's the Lorinser scoop?

For the 430 cab, I like the speedster tonneau cover with the roll bars. They look cool.

Mike

sungulent 01-07-2003 06:38 PM

lm1 19 chromes alwasy been my favorite and yes they are expensive

BlackBaby 01-07-2003 08:02 PM

Yes, speedster bumper.. that is same as SCOOP. That's what they call in Lorinser website. I got that one with Lorinser rear trunk spoiler for $800. They are brand new in box too. Think I got a good deal. They are coming from CANADA...

braincuttermd 01-07-2003 08:31 PM

Man, your car is going to look amazing when you're done.

Here's my bone stock CLK 430 2001.

BlackBaby 01-12-2003 05:40 PM

looks very clean... :) I didn't realize that the stock CLK has that much gap between wheels and the body

braincuttermd 01-12-2003 07:51 PM

Scrolling back and forth between my OEM springs and Ahmed's ride with the aftermarket springs (and ultra-sweet modular rims), I can totally see the huge wheel well gap in my car. The real benefit to that gap is when I'm rinsing out the road salt from the bottom of the car every 5-6 days.

FrankW 01-12-2003 10:38 PM

yup... my car originaly looked like urs, except it was even higher!! But i've always admired those 5 spoke AMG alloys. The prob. is they're in 17's.. if only they came in 18's. Wanna trade?:D

braincuttermd 01-13-2003 09:24 PM

To Ahmed

If I'm not mistaken, the SL 5 spoke AMGs came in 18"s. Of course, they don't look nearly as cool as your modular rims!

Mike

Ahmed 01-14-2003 02:25 AM

My respects to you sir!
:)

braincuttermd 01-14-2003 05:44 PM

This is a perfect example of the need for frequent undercarriage rinsing. This is after 3 days of driving in the salt covered roads. By the way, those are Bridgestone Blizzaks LM22 in the 245/40 17 for the rear.

theine 01-14-2003 08:01 PM

I try not to take my car out when it's raining.
Salt!!...no way, for that kind of treatment, I'd would use my Jeep.:p

braincuttermd 01-14-2003 08:05 PM

That's ironic that you say that. I bought my Mercedes because it's a safe car and would offer that much more protection under harsh road conditions (rain and snow). If anything should happen, at least I know I'm in a safe car. Live to buy another one! :)

theine 01-14-2003 08:16 PM

Don't get me wrong, it's just that I couldn't stand to see your car with all that salt on it.....Do you have to rinse it every day?:(

braincuttermd 01-14-2003 08:24 PM

Yeah, it's pretty painful to look at, especially when contrasted against a black finish. It's actually not that bad in that picture. Sometimes, there's icicles hanging off the side skirts and clumps of brown/grey snow in the back of all 4 wheel wells!

I don't rinse it everyday (though I'd like to). It's so cold here in Ohio (19F) that I can't even clean it off on my driveway because the water freezes almost immediately. I have to wash it in the garage with the garage doors closed. Each week, I do a mid-week rinse with warm water for about 15 mins, concentrating on wheel-wells, under carriage and door/hood jams. On the weekends, I repeat that, but I incorporate a full soapy wash to make it nice and clean. Using luke-warm water to keep it from freezing on the body is good, but it sure does strip the wax.

I had the car undercoated and the doors/hood/trunk lids treated to protect it from corrosion and I get the treatment updated every summer.

Hopefully, all these measures will keep the car rust-free for a while. :)

Mike

xyzpl 01-15-2003 04:23 AM

braincuttermd, PLEASE tell me you've washed your car!!!!!!

I can't bare the thought of my car being that dirty..... I have to wash it once a week.... well almost....

braincuttermd 01-15-2003 04:43 PM

Yep, you can rest easy (as can I). I usually keep that car clean (as demonstrated by my earlier post with pics), but in the deep of winter, it gets covered in salt and snow for a few days and do weekly washes. :)

the picture you posted IS a GT3, but the picture Ahmed posted was just a 996 Carrera with GT3 bodykit. The GT3 came with the special multipiece rims, red calipers, interior rollbar (not sure), and the special seats that are similar to the GT2. Nevertheless, the carrera Ahmed posted is still a nice ride:)

wowowowwwooo guys, hold on! I'm not a big porsche fan.. and actually i wasnt sure if i should have posted that on this forum!

However, i've checked it out and YES you guys, its apparently called A CARRERA 2. When he ordered it, he asked for turbo look wheels, spacers, AERO KIT ( i hope i spelt it right), suede interior IVORY.

He says the only difference between the carrera and GT3 is 5 HP's, suspension and brakes and some weight reductions.

Well, i have learnt something new. Thought only MB's were flexible!!:p

xyzpl 01-18-2003 02:20 AM

Actually the 2003 carrera 2 has 315hp and the GT3 has 360hp...

Ahmed 01-18-2003 02:25 AM

really?

even porsche modify and change their cars yearly!!! I thought Beemers and MBs were bad!

:(

xyzpl 01-18-2003 02:31 AM

I know, a 2002 Carrera 2 is rated at 320HP...

But it is still way more than the 5HP difference your brother told you.

FrankW 01-18-2003 05:16 AM

I heard that there will be a newer edition (03 or 04?) of the GT3 still based on the 996 making it's way into the production. It will have around 380 hp. It will still be limited production like the older GT3s from couple yrs back.

braincuttermd 01-18-2003 07:02 PM

In full winter gear, I'm ready for the weekly wash. It didn't snow this week, but residual salt made its way onto my car. I think it was 33F in the garage, even with the door closed, with the outside temp being about 10F.

Bruce really knows how to use camera and take shots. He got some skills~ :D :D I asked Bruce one time which camera he is using to take pictures, and I checked the price of his camera and it was cheap one. I wonder how he can take that good pictures with inexpensive camera. I use Sony F505v which is pretty nice camera but doesn't come nicely as Bruce's pictures....

Bruce YOU SHOULD TEACH US YOUR SKILL~ :D :D

The dealer did that! They upgraded the original rims and new tires. They had a customer that was upgrading his rims on a 2002 model and they put his original ones on my car.

They also gave me the me the original rims for snow tires/e-bay. Cool huh!

I've had those springs and shocks for about an year, it's the only car I have so I drive it everyday, but it's still a bit too high to me, so I might be lowering more in the future.

Yeah I was there from 8am to 6pm, my team was actually the first group to get in so we were at the very far back of the speedway. The drifting was awesome, it was probably the best show I've ever been to, normally you just sit there the whole day and do nothing, but this time we actually had something to do. LowRydeR 03-07-2003 11:42 AM

Admission is quite expensive this time, and if you're displaying your car at the show, you have to roll in on Friday (today) and leave it for the night. This show shouldn't be so boring because there's lots of activities going on.

2) Lorinser Front Bumper with PIAA extreme white bulbs
3) Lorinser Speedster Top
4) Lorinser Rear Sport Spoiler
5) Black Tinted Tailights
6) Brembo Brake Rotors (front) / Bradi Brake Rotos (rear)
7) Painted Calipers
8) Painted Side Markers

That's about it. Enjoy. :)

That's a good looking CLK, welcome to the forum

I notice another mod (probably made by the previous owner), the euro turn signal blinker on the fender.

You need to meet us at the next GTG, check the Events and Gatherings from time to time. ;)

RobnCindi 04-14-2003 02:53 PM

Thanks pocholin...Looking forward to one of the GTG's! Those turn sigs are standard for '99's. MB didn't start with the turn sig's in the mirrors until 2000 from what I understand...correct me if I am wrong.

Where are the GTG's in Houston anyhow? My wife and I are probably a little too old to cruise with some of you youngsters but we'll come check it out sometime anyhow.

pocholin 04-14-2003 05:14 PM

You are never too old for GTG's, they are usually at the corner of westheimer and post oak, at the galeria.

I look forward to meeting you.

I think those turn signals on the fenders are aftermarket, may be somebody else can verify this for us.

mmgrad,

How is the ride now? I was going to get this done in a few weeks, and was wondering the ride changes. Also, where did you get it? Same car, Black/Ash.

mmgrad 04-21-2003 01:24 PM

I was expecting the ride to be harsh since i put #1 pads all around, but to my surprise, the ride didn't change very much at all. I highly recommend this setup.

I had the install done at D2 Technik in Alhambra, CA. My car is actually Black Opal/Oyster....

Supra- Thats the same color as my car... so I gotta love it. Although I sometimes wish I had charcoal interior (Oyster is hard to keep clean).

By the way, now that I've lowered my ride, a CLK at factory height just seems waaaay too high off the ground.

But still, lovely car! Nice rims... much better than those hidious stock 320 wheels.

Hi mmgrad
yes , I think black opal is kind of special colour , I love it too :)
well , recently I m thinking to lower my clk , i agree that it is a bit high from the factory height >< :(

Ted Baldwin 04-25-2003 04:40 AM

How come Supra's car has chrome window trim and mmgrad's has black ones ?!

.......No. CLK 320's come with chrome window trim and CLk430's come with black window trim in North America. Just as the interior of a CLk320 is made of burlwanut trim that comes in the more expensive CL and S class while the CLk430 comes with birdseye black. I'm not sure how MB makes their decisions.

...........No, those turn signals are not aftermarket, but yes they were present in CLK's prir to 2000. AS far as I know and I know because I'm a Modaholic, there are no aftermarket fender turn signals to place anew in a CLK that did nolt have them before. Therefore, any CLK that has the fender turn signals is a 1998 or 1999 CLK even if the wheeels have been changed.

Ted, you are right that '98 & '99 models have side markers, and '00+ have side mirror signals. However, they do have aftermarket fender mounted turn signals....
remember this CLK?:

Its a gorgeous red 2000 CLK320 in seattle with BOTH mirror mounted turn signals and fender mounted turn signals.

Of course I know that. (Note, I didn't even say they were Brabus.)
The real ones have "BRABUS" forged into the metal, and cost $3000.00 a set.

I have to be honest with you, I didn't ask if they were or weren't Brabus originals. When I posted that I thought they were. The guy is a good friend of mine, so I thought maybe I was getting a deal from God.

After I asked him he told me they were knockoffs...(before we installed them of course...)

good catch though.

question:
does anyone know if you can use sportline c class springs and shocks to drop a '98 clk320??

i'd rather keep his car oem as much as possible

Guys, not shown before but here is a UK spec 430 Avantgarde. 2000 model. Only mods being the Kleemann shocks, springs and wheels. Need some Brembo's next and then that SC.

In the UK we do not get the same body kit as the US spec cars!

I disagree mmgrad I think it looks ugly in the picture you posted. The window sills are too sharp(at the end) it just doesnt look right. The rear spoiler needs to be lower for it to look good. That way it doesnt look as if it is being tipped up like a seesaw. Feel free to flame but this is my opinion.

mmgrad 06-11-2003 11:37 AM

krisk85, if you checked my original post, i already said, I don't like the whole back section of the car... just that from the rear wheel forward, the car look smore aerodynamic...

And as stated in my original post, I still like my W208 more.

krisk85 06-11-2003 11:39 AM

Sorry i miss understood it as that you dont like the view from the back, but the side view is ok.

no prob... my intentions weren't to start any flame wars about 208 vs. 209.... and you won't see me trading in my w208 for the w209 either... only trade-up would be to the '02 CLK55..... or at least to a '02 430 Cab... but I'll have to see how that plays out...

what ride do you have?

krisk85 06-11-2003 06:04 PM

I dont have a clk :( It is my dream car. I am trying to work and save enough for one, but being under 25 doesnt help me much because even if I do get enough money I still have the insurance and upkeep.:wall: My dad was supposed to get me one in december/january 03/04, but my dad was supposed to do alot of things, so i gave up on him and started saving for my self. I know it isn december/january yet but the way things are looking, doesnt look like he will get one for me.

krisk85 06-11-2003 06:58 PM

You can find a used 97 or 98 CLK320 Coupe at a reasonable price. Look around you may find 1 you can afford easier than you thought.

there's 97?? in the states? i thought it only came to the states in 98...

krisk85 06-11-2003 07:01 PM

In Australia they are still about 100k 2nd hand :( (That is 50k USD)

BlackC230Coupe 06-11-2003 07:11 PM

Sorry frank, your right i dont know why i said 97. I was just trying to think of an older one so it can be a little cheaper.

Krisk85- Oh, I guess things are alot different over there.:( Dont worry though, if u want one bad enough, you'll get one one day.:)

krisk85 06-11-2003 07:14 PM

bmw is much cheaper here because the market has been flodded with them, as for merc unfortunately you pay for your tastes. Yer thats the plan, one day :P

Oh yeah, its almost $4,000, and I'm not even the listed primary driver for the CLK. From the family plan i'm in, I'm listed as the secondary driver (10%) for my sister's '97 Accord 4 cyl sedan... hows about that?

You can get a used one here for probably around $30K (98 clk320)... I'm not sure about australia (is that where you from?), but if the steering wheel is on the same side... why don't you get a used one from the states and import it back home?

krisk85 06-11-2003 08:43 PM

The steering is on the opposite side :( And im not quite sure what exact prices are in Europe. I do know that a container costs $5,000 AUD or $2,500USD from Britain to Australia. And yes i am from australia.

Todd1 06-23-2003 09:45 AM

I am selling it because I need the $$$$ for a real estate transaction. I am currently taking offers on it. Not really sure what it is worth. I know I have alot invested into it. It sucks, because I love this car and dont want to sell it. Any one interested, call me at 602-684-6436. Thanks

I think it's better for you to set up a reserve amount because a modded car usually will sell less than a stock one. A 99 CLK430 I've seen on classified ad from the dealership are usually around $32-33k. good luck selling yours...:)

I actually thought the American version looked better. But it's just a trunk!
Anyway here's a before-mods shot.
Yes it's just a 230 but the majority of CLK's here are 200 or 230.
Due to the crazy import tax for cars, the 230 would have cost about USD 130K when it first came out in the late 90's. I of course bought used.
The CLK 55 here would probably cost what a Ferrari cost in the USA. You guys are bloody lucky. There's only 1 CLK 55 in Singapore last time I checked.

Ahmed 07-06-2003 05:05 AM

i totally agree with you... its worse here...

a CLK320 would cost the same as a kleemanized CLK55 AMG in the states. BUT!!! there's a catch!!;)

We get better performanced cars than they do!:p higher compression ratios, better torque, better alternaters and compressors and better high end speed.

can you imagine a CLK230 kompressor doing 240 kph? A 320 doing 250kph!! :)

mmgrad 07-06-2003 01:03 PM

In that case, I'd rather just mod the ECU of a Kleemannized CLK55 instead of a stock foreign CLK320 to get the max speed... other aftermarket mods can and will make it even better...

nice trunk... but i'm not sure about having 2 plates stacked ontop each other... i've actually seen a BMW 540i with euro plates in the back... i'm pretty sure its not legal, but thats what he/she used, and nothing else was visible... may have had the actual plates in the rear window or something...

by the way, I don't believe the law states that you MUST place your state issued license plate at the factory designated spot... as long as there is 1 in the rear, and 1 in the front, both clearly visible, then you should be in proper legal parameters... i think... can anyone with more legal experience comment on this?

BlackC230Coupe 07-07-2003 01:13 PM

I've seen an Audi A4 with euro plates on the front and rear. BUT, he did have his regular U.S plate in the rear window.

Sorry to post in over the trunk debate, but I just found this forum (have had MBs for 5 years) and wanted to throw up a pic of my bone-stock but still loved baby:

I hope to add some rims soon, and maybe the 430 front spoiler. I want to keep it clean though.

Going to Autohaus in Pompano, the intention was to check up on the wait list for this car in silver with grey interior...and sitting on the floor was this 'pre-owned' 02 CLK320 in one of the most gorgeous colors I had seen on an MB. I'm not sure if all the dealers used the same tactic, but Autohaus had been buying back some CLKs which were purchased by people looking to turn it over for quick profit; it gave them a way to have some cars on the lot to avoid the horrendous wait list. Of course, over-list prices were quite the norm. Giving in to temptation, the CLK came home with me that night!

Glad to know there are some MB forums...I have been participating in the occasional forum chat for VW and Audi, and always wondered if there was such a thing for MBs!!

Laiv 07-08-2003 06:31 PM

Are you sure? they seem to be different year, nice cars though.
Blue seems like 99 (no blinker mirrors, side markers on the fender, body kit), black is either re-sprayed blak with those mods or just another car.

heeman 07-09-2003 01:19 PM

It is a 98 CLK 230 in original metallic (?transanite) blue.
The blinkers were removed, the resulting holes patched by cutting out a larger section and then welding a piece of metal over it.
The side mirrors were modded by changing to the triangular mountings and the housings with the blinkers. The motors and mirrors were left untouched.
It was then left at the paint shop for 12 days to fit the bodykit and get resprayed to Obsidian Black.
The blue and the black is one and the same car.
I aint got so much money to get 2 CLK's.

pocholin 07-09-2003 03:28 PM

Well, for the pics it looks like they did a very good job with the mods! we'll give it the 3 thumbs up

Damn, u cant even see those lights. I think u should get really dark tint, paint the badges, smoke the headlights and get black wheels. And that way at night when your lights are not on it will be stealth.:D

whiteyford 07-11-2003 11:09 PM

I like the smoked look it cleans up the car even more. The red in the stock lights is to bright. It looks 100% better smoked.

in that case, don't forget to smoke the side markers and the chrome trim around the window... oh, and the front grill if you haven't painted them already... :D :D

Oh yeah how could i have forgotten that? Plus a clear licence plate cover and smoke it black. I cant imagaine what something like that would look like in person if all that was really done.:p

oooh... and those chrome door handle pieces..., and while we're at it... the rotors & calipers too...

it be scary to drive that since no one will be able to see you...

ELENI 07-12-2003 03:13 PM

You guys sound like my boyfriend, he wants to black out everything on the car. He has made my car his project. He wants everything black but with 18" chrome amg's. So this way the only thing u see in the dark are the rims :) .

The exhaust is a Remus. Its a 99' CLK 320, sports 18' Brabus Monoblock IV. Although there are rally nice Brabus, AMG, Lorinsor and Carlsson body kits out there, I think this one does it right for my car. Plus I haven't really seen any 320 using it. I'm thinking of adding the Iluminated door sills later this year. Peace.

hinhin7 07-14-2003 02:52 AM

Nice car...
the body kit really makes the car very low... eventhough you still have that much of fender gap... :-)
If you lower the car more, you will scrap the road...

LowRydeR 07-14-2003 01:35 PM

Is that the Opera Design bodykit? Your car is sweet.

Heeman, post some more of that sweet looking car! What size rims are those and are they the newer lorinser's? Post some side views please!

Josh K 08-01-2003 09:28 PM

Yeah the rims look huge in the side view!

heeman 08-02-2003 12:57 AM

You can see more pics of my car on pages 72, 73, 74.
Wheels are Lorinser RS 5, 8.5x18 (only), 9.5x18.
They probably look bigger because the spokes go nearly all the way to the edge of the wheel.

I do lust after 19's but I think they probably rob too much power form my puny 230, and rob too much money from my pocket!

Danny, the black benz in the garage is my friend's E420. Completely stock at the time we took these pics.

The specs on these Lorinser LM-1's are 19X9 front 19X10 rear, 235/35/19 front, 265/30/19 rear.

Thanks for the compliments, I can drive fine just have to be very careful where I go. Going side ways to clear speed bumps and entering plazas is a must. I can have 3 passengers, the car just look more slammed. It's a daily driver so it's a pain in the ass to go sideways everywhere I go, but I got used to it.

P.S. Thanks danny :) Your new shoes look very hot too !! Photoshoot needed !!

I had 18" chrome monoblocks on my CLK for 4 months or so before i got my carlssons. never got the CLK55, thats a long story yall will hear all about when i can talk about it. Right now, i have to wait a few months for everything to be straightened out, and at this point it looks like my brother is going to get a 2002 CLK55 Designo (whatever it is, the black with saddle colored designo leather and wood), and since we can easily swap cars for a day or a period of time, im looking at getting a 2001-2002 Porsche C2 with the aero kit. honestly, my family has long been a mercedes family (12 different ones in my lifetime of 19 years) because of their looks and feel and power, but largely do to their dependability. i love my CLK, havent had any major problems with it, you guys can argue all you want with me, but the fact stands that since mercedes started building cars to a price tag, they just arent what they used to be. my car goes in to the stealership every couple months with something stupid wrong, their are creaks and squeaks and rattles everywhere. ive always loved porsches, and they really do build one hell of a dependable car. i dont think i could give up my mercedes completely for a porsche, i dont think there will ever be a day in my life where there isnt a benz at my house, but since my brother will have the CLK55 that i can drive when i really need the grace of a benz, and my parents still having 4 other mercedes, i think it would be fun to have a porsche for a little while. if i buy one low miles, someone else has already eaten the depreciation, so i can sell it for a good price when i need to come back to the benz.

I thought u said C4? Btw, i know 1 person with a Boxster S and he has had nothing but problems with it, then it went on fire on the highway!:D Someone else i know has a Carrera C4S and its in the dealer weekly and its brand new. Someone else i know has a 700+ HP 911 Turbo but he is trouble free.:D

Btw, what other Mercedes does your family own? and are they also problem free or did u have problems with those 2?

I still find it hard to belive so many people have probmems with mercedes, i will consider my house hold lucky since we have owned 17 or more mercedes and never had any problems other than broken windows on the E classes and a broken fuel pump on the ML.

I would also be a little concerned about buying a 2001 carrera since there would be no more warrenty. Unless there is an extended one.

Porsche has tiptronic, but, in other porsche owners will laugh at you for buying a porsche and getting an automatic??

And yeah, my dealer has actually tried to offer me a C230 coupe with manual tranny twice... i would have taken it, but I didn't want to strip the gears trying to get out of the driveway...

i'll remember to bring my bud with me next time to drive it out the driveway... hehehe

And u are so lucky!:D I wish my dealers around here offered manual loaners. I cant even rent a car with a manual tranny from any sort of rent-a-car place around here eaither.:(

C2, C4, i change my mind daily, haha, i guess when it really comes down to it, i dont care, ill take whatever comes along at the right price at the right time. My friends dad has a 2002 911 GT2 with whatever turbo upgrade is above the Monster Turbo (i dont know, i have no idea:( ), its got something like 600 HP, and he has also had no problems at all. Guy is a very experienced track racer, and has taken me for a few drives on some back country roads, and i must admit, the first time he scared the **** out of me.

lets see, our garage.....we have a CL600(pops, not the bi-turbo, only mods to speak of are completely new stereo install, all stealth though, and a bunch of new wood pieces for the interior), SL600(1999, moms car, midnight blue, custom crazy interior, 18x8.5 18x10 RH chrome monoblock style rims with a 3.5 inch lip in the rear:eek: ), 1991 560SEC(pops, lots of mods), and a W210 E55(brothers, no mods, being sold to a client of my fathers sometime in the near future).

as far as problems, the CL has had absolutely none, the SL doesnt really have any problems, other than the fact that it cant stay alligned for more than a week, maybe my mom just cant drive, i dont know, the SEC is 13 years old and it has its minor replacement stuff but no problems really, and the E55 had some issues, all stupid stuff, but has had zero issues since it went out from under warranty. i guess my CLK and its problems can be attributed to the obvious....

CL600.....$120,000
SL600.....$120,000
560SEC..$70,000 (really have no clue what it was new)
E55........$80,000

CLK430..$55,000

i guess one should expect the fit and finish of a $55K car to be different than a $120K car(unless its english), but when it comes to the driving of my CLK, ive got zero complaints, its never left me stranded, and im very confident that it wont, i just dont know if my stereo will play CDs or if my check engine light will malfuction on during the drive...;)

mmgrad 08-26-2003 03:02 AM

thats a nice collection of cars you gots in your stable... very impressive.... i think for the CLK... its just the luck of the draw.. you either get a cherry, or a slightly bruised apple... on the super rare ocassion, you'll get a lemon...

On the other hand, i think my C230 has better fit and finish than the CLK!:D I hate the center console in the CLK's. :wall:

I dont think the price should really afftect the reliability of these cars, because my C230 (cheapest benz we ever owned) has had luckly 0 problems. My CLK has had such minor ones i dont even count them, like a broken front seat that did not move back, and the check engine like that came on once, (then they replaced the fuel tank). But i cant even say i had a minor one with my C230. And alot of people do have problems with them, so i guess it is all luck.

ldangeli , check my post to your other thread....

and based on your title on this post, you needa read what i have to say...
*************clip**************

thanks for the pics... they look real nice... nice lip too..

but ok, now to bash you... based on the picture you provided... it looks to me like the left side is the cabin area (based on the side skirts), and right right side is the trunk (based on the dirt pattern & location of the brakes)... is that correct?

If it is, you have your tires mounted incorrectly, cause the arrow on the directional tire is pointed towards the back... instead of the front...

Check the tire on the other side of the car... you might need to swap your wheels to the other side if they are both spinning the wrong way...

ldangeli 08-27-2003 04:59 PM

I see that you finally got your Chrome Monoblock II's. The look hot. Im about to pick up some 19'' SSR's for my CLK. Cant wait. Im also looking to do the sport drop which should bring it down about 1.2" . That should help with the handeling but im hoping that it wont hurt the ride. Im also looking to put in some tvs. I have a hookup and am thinking about waiting until the new Kenwood deck comes out. It has a 7" LCD screen with DVD player. I will let you know when everything comes along. Talk to you soon

hey man... i would love to take those wheels off your hand... but my wedding is starting to cost more than what i could get for my car if I sold it now... so my financials are all tied up...

I love them HREs you got, and just about any mesh design wheel, but, at the same time, I like the clean look of a simple wheel... its less clutter, and it doesn't take away too much attention from the car itself...

good luck selling your wheels... if in a few months you still have them, i'll look you up... :D

This thread really is dead - it's about to turn into a whoring thread!

...........the moderators of this forum are very sensitive to criticism, but it has been common knowledge for a long time that it is extremely difficult to post pics. as a result the "picture thread" threads are dying. What people do is to join mbnz.org and post pics there and then paste the link here. None except Benzmac so far has brought it up, perharps no one wants to ruffle the feathers of the moderators.

not only is the picture thread dead... the forum has kinda gone to hell in a handbag (is that the right saying?)

anyways... since the crash & all, the site has shifted... no more pic attachments, mods are antsy & flashing their godly power by banning peeps... its just not the same anymore...

i use to have so much fun reading & responding to posts...

It's not him Danny it's the forum. I've had the same thing happen in a few threads now. It's like when you hit the post button it's sits there for a few secs/mins and then you get frustrated and hit the post button again and by the time it really does posts you're looking at multiple posts. It's the software.

Thanks man, I'm going to try it on my corolla. Hopefully it'll turn out just as good as yours. You know where I can buy it?

Eleni, those are some great pics... and wow... those chome monoblocks are tight.... looks great on a black car

and dang... is that your man's 8 series? those wheels are truly deep dish... :D

another thing, did you do your blacked out grill yourself? what method? any chipping?

btw, lastly, i might need your help with that niteshade sprays... :D

FrankW 03-30-2004 01:20 AM

not a fan of the complete smoked tail light on both cars, but still the cars are great:)

absolutely love the 8-series. what year is it? 840 or 850? I want to guess 840, but it's hard to tell from the smoked tail light.

OT: still don't know why the 8 didn't sell that well. It's one of the most beautiful BMW comes to date.

Thanks Danny. Yep that's his 8 series. I love the rims. 2 1/2 inch deep in the front and 4" in the rear. They are sick.

I did the grill myself but I have to say that I have had some chipping. I didn't have it beadblasted before doing it so that is probably why. I used the nite shade also. I've been having to touch it up every time it chips. BIG PAIN. I'm still looking for a local shop to powdercoat my spare grill if possible.

Sure Danny, just let me know if you need the nite shade and I'll check out the local shop.

Frank, that is a 1991 850 with a CSI body kit on it. I agree with you on the 8 series definitely one of the most beautiful BMW's ever. It's pretty rare around here which makes it an eye catcher. You would think it was an ENZO they way the guys flocked to it when we drove into the meet.

You have to host the pics on another site and then use the link to attach the pic.
