What do yous think? (my system ideas)

Ok, I have a 02 clk 430 and I am putting a system in there within the next month give or so. Here are my ideas, let me know what you think:

1. Stock head unit/cd changer, jl audio clean sleep, ipod auxed to the clean sweep, 1000w jl amp and 2 500w jl subs.

2. Stock head/cd changer, jl clean sweep, ipod, 100w jl amp, 2 500w jl subs, 1 400w jl sub to new int speakers for better sound.

3. CD.DVD.NAV head unit, stock sound system.

4. CD.DVD.NAV head unit + sound sytem, ipod. w/o int speakers

5. CD.DVD.NAV + entire audio system.

I'm not sure I want to go through all the trouble of ripping apart the interior for new speakers but I'm not sure. I'm leaning towards numbers 1 and 4. What do you guys think? Of course my dream would be cd.dvd.nav/w complete system but I'm not sure I want to go through an entire costly install. What do you think I should do to get the most bang for my buck without ruining my car?

Also, if I go for number four, I can install the dvd unit with a vw harness kit and hook the sound system up through the clean sweep, correct? I'm not really sure I could be wrong.

I was under the impression that NOTHING else worked with the MB fiber optic system. It's all or nothing. I could be wrong.

you may be right. i know that some people have jumped the speaker line comming from the amp with a line output convertor to an amp/subs.

clean sweep is a new convertor by jl that is supposed to be great for bypassing the amp .....

the head unit is another story, im not sure how easy it is to change that.

You would use the clean sweep if you wanted to keep your factory head unit and upgrade the int. speakers as well as add an amp and sub.

What you could do is get a Euro COMAND from MBenzNL.com and use the clean sweep as stated above.

Me, I'm going to go old school with a line/level adapter hooked to the factory head unit for my amp and subs in the trunk.

TK, et. al.: I've researched the hell out of this and here's what I've learned:

1) IF you have a Bose system, speakers are at a different ohm rating than any aftermarket HU, so you might have problems, but some people claim to have done it with no problems.

2) If you don't have a Bose system, then replace whatever components you want, no problem, EXCEPT:

3) If you trade out the head unit, you get no readout on the instrument cluster, no steering wheel controls, and no control of the trunk CD changer. These are the fiber optic components for any setup, Bose or not. The amp is also fiber optic on the Bose setup (this is the only part I'm not 100% certain about).

Why they had to make it this frickin' complicated is beyond me. Too much Jagermeister when they were designin' this puppy.

Another problem is Bose doesn't put out any specs. Is the amp located on the left side of the trunk wall? I'd be willing to open her up and check the cables.

I have a friend with a 2000ml and he installed an amp and subs with just a line output convertor linked into the rear speaker wire. so, it can be done but im not too sure about the quality of the sound. i may just rip out the whole thing and have it like i want it. i just don't want to spend more on an install the the entire system of components cost....i actually would like to just install it myself.

haters crazy
The Bose system runs at a rediculously low ohm level. I have talked many people in the audio industry (Myer Emco, Tweeter, and others) and they have all told me that if I want to do it right I have to swap everything out. I had everything purchased and ready to install and the day before my install date my tranny blew (New Alpine h/u, ALL Mb quart Q series speakers, 2 PPI amps, and Diamond audio subs, most of this stuff is now in my brothers car). I was extremely pissed to say the least. If you want to drive down to this area I go the hook up at Tweeter (good friends with install manager and car audio sales manager). Now gimme those damn fenders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
