Shipping And Insurance????

I recently shipped my wheels back to the manufacturer so they could inspect them. Anyway the shipping company delivered them to the wrong address and can not get them back. I thought I had insured them for $5000.00 for 4 rims, but it turns out I insured them for $5000.00 for each rim by accident. Does the shipper owe me for the Declared Value that I insured the wheels for of $20K or just what it would cost to replace them? I really just want the cost of the wheels, but this is the 5th time I have had problems shipping with this company and have used them only 5 times(imagine that) and if they owe me 20K that is what I'll persue. You know they are going to try to get out of it if they owe me. Information from anyone that has delt with this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

$20K???? I just hope you have some way of verifying the item you shipped has a value of $5K. If you don't have an appraisal, a bill of sale, or adequate documentation, you're looking at an uphill fight. Freight companies will pay the actual market value of the item being shipped. If I insured an AutoWeek magazine for a $10K, shipped it to you, and the shipping company admits they lost that magazine, I could look forward to a check for four dollars. The amount of insurance is irrelevant, it's the value of the item that counts. Since you were returning a set of wheels, I'm going to guess that the wheel manufacturer can send you documentation that states the type of wheel that was being returned. The value of those wheels, plus a refund of your original shipping costs is probably all you're going to get.

Yeah, I have the bill of sale and a quote from the retailer of the retail value of the wheels. That is what I expected, but you never know when you might hit the lottery. I guess this is a no brainer. Thanks.
