some 1998-2001 cars are affected by this they say, mine fit the criteria.

Anyway, I made an appointment for the service to be performed, just giving everyone else a heads up.

I never received a letter. I just took mine to the dealer an they changed it.

I also took mine to a dealer and they replaced it. Took about an hour and a half. They also washed the car(and did a good job). Nice experience.

I took my car to the stealership yesterday to get my tires balanced and the harmonic thing came up but they toll me thet it dosent need it to be change. Hope is not a lie from them and it needs to be change.

I hope they're not lying to you. It depends on what he meant. If the dealership meant that it works fine and doesn't need to be replaced then that's a bunch of B.S. It's a recall, so it shouldn't matter on the working condition. Maybe your car's VIN falls in a group that doesn't need the work? I have no clue on that. I know I had mine changed for free on my 99. I never even asked them. They just looked it up, saw it was out there and did it.

Oh....right. You just said they saw it was out there. I would think that means you need the work done. If possible I'd try to find another dealership. To me (which doesn't count for much) it means you should have it replaced as part of the recall.

I just called my dealership and my car is on the list and I'm scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. They asked if they needed to look at anything else and I suggested the MAF. I'm still under my extended warranty and if it's (MAF) not exactly right, hopefully they'll replace it (I'm not experiencing anything that I know of other than the normal bad gas mileage around town).

Well I stop buy the dealer today to pick up my V8 emblems amd i talk to my servise guy and he toll me that my car's VIN falls in a group that doesn't need the work just like you said in your post so im good to go and thanks for clearimg the up as well

i recently took my car into the dealership to get my stop lamp switch taken care of, they told me that there was a recall on the harmonic balancer and they checked it out, but he said " its fine, we dont have to replace it, by the way, you dont want us to change it because we have to take the top part of the motor apart" ???? since its a recall, shouldnt it be changed regardless if its good or not? what should i do? i got 107k on mine. 1k more miles to service A

The harmonic balancer on my '99 CLK320 gave out on me a few months after the warranty ran out and I had to shell out over $2,100.00 to have it and the parts it took with it replaced. About a year later the car was totaled and so I went and bought a '00 CLK to replace it. Last December I got the recall notice for the '00 and had it checked out, it was fine. This is where the story gets real good. I told the service rep about the problem I had with my '99 and showed him the invoice for the repair and he says I should be able to get a refund from M-B for the money. It took two months but I just got a check in the mail for the full amount. Can't believe it actually happened so thank you M-B.

i took my car for service and they told me about the recall for the Pulley and they replaced it free of charge. ( 99 Clk430)
by the way, need some help...

Was a lot of snow today on the road and while i was driving, just notice that the traction Control was not working and i think the ESP either. there was no lights On in the dash, and i try to press the ESP button OFF and ON to check the Yellow Caution sign in the middle of the Speedometer and Nothing. didn't light up. my car went to the dealer to do the service B one week ago ( and i told them to replace a Bad bulb on the dash) i don't know if they left anything disconnected.). Did anyone knows what it could be?
