Shadowgriffen, since we now know that this member was not killed, I took the liberty to edit the Title of this thread. Hope you don't mind.

Condolences to the family of the passenger who did pass...

EDIT: My mistake. Apparently we have lost a member. So sad.

Yeah , he was the one that was killed. It was his friend that King320 was speaking with and asked to post that little piece.

My condolences. Seat belts seem to work. His passenger lived and I presumed he was wearing one. Princes Diana's bodyguard wore one and you know the rest of that story.

Not wearing seat belt=strike one. Excessive speed=strike two. Anything else equalling strike three and you're out....
The riskier the behavior that you're engaged in the greater the odds that you're going to suffer the consequences of that behavior -- one of the laws of life that one doesn't 'get around'. Yes we all get lucky on occasion and don't get caught with our pants down or suffer the consequences -- but when you gamble in the game of life? Sometimes you lose.
His death is tragic. It was 'unnecessary'. It was also, I am sad to say, and I mean NO disrepect in saying this, 'predictable' based on what little I understand of the circumstances of the incident.
Driving is not a video game. There is no reset button. There are no 'extra lives'.

those are words of wisdom.

when you are driving at very high speed, there is no room for error. Even professional drivers would crash from time to time but normally they fare better because they would all wear seatbelt and racing helmet and the race cars have much better protection than production cars.

OK, sorry for any confusion I caused. I thought Shin Gil was the passenger who lived. Well, this is a bit depressing, in any event.

Sorry if my post was worded poorly, too many pronouns i imagine. Shin Gil was the one who died, i was speaking with his friend last night who survived the wreck because he was wearing his seatbelt. Sicrx65 died in the accident, so Bob you might wanna re-edit the thread title.

I really dont know what to say, I have Seen Gil and his car around the streets of my father's garage, around boston, around cambridge... I have seen him and his car hundreds of times travelling in opposite directions. Everytime the thought came to my mind... "Finally another mercedes tuner in the area... Cant wait for our next meet!!!" He was suppose to meet up with me and Silk32 to go to the Car show in October but was running a little late.

Im really not sure what to say at all, I shared some PMs with him and he seemed like a really good kid and very enthusiastic, had so much to live for. I am shocked, I even was watching the news when that aired, all I did was flip the channel because it was another needless accident didnt catch the fact it was a CLK...

May he rest in peace, and I wish his family and friends the best through this hard time... Not sure if any of the boston members would be willing to but, for us to have some type of fundraising event for his family or charity in his name... PM me with Ideas

I think there is something wrong with the W208 ESP system. This is the second CLK I have heard about that flipped over on a dangerous corner.

Is there something DC is hiding from us ?

When was the last time Mercedes just flipped over ? I wonder if the seat belt affected more control over the car. The other incident I know about was in a racing harness.

Admittedly the CLK doors seem to open just fine even after a few flips.

So needless, so sad.

the area where he was on wouldnt matter if ESP kicked in or not, the part of road he was on dips and swerves pretty drastically, not made for any type of high speed driving, he could of easily gone airborn with the vehicle, ESP wont do a thing when wheels arent touching the ground

Physical Laws Involved in Rallying No. 5 -

You cannot steer, brake, or accelerate the car while airborne.

Catching air at speed without anticipating and correcting the car before losing contact with the ground will most likely result in going off course.

It is essential in rallying for the navigator to make preparations to know the course well enough to be able to identify to the driver both the areas where this is likely to occur and the correction necessary to be made by the driver to enable the driver to keep the car on course.
