Angry how is this possible

Hello guys,

Today I raced with a friend of mine from stop to 0-100kmh(0-60mph).
We did this with my car = clk 320 , end 1998 model

and my freind got an e cdi 270 / begin 2003 model

He was telling me every time I saw him or he was in my benz, that he could beat me easily. I just told him not to mess with an 320 petrol engine even if it is old model. Because a corvette from 1980 still gets the 5/6 sec to 100km/h
After he challenged me , when we were near eachother
and the ligths got green. we both floored it to the kickdown....

and you know what he won..

on paper we would say , clk320 would whip its butt.
because it has 224horsepower with low torque but petrol engine, they say 0 to 100kmh
7,4seconds for clk320.

and the e270cdi 177horsepower with high torque, 0 to 100kmh 9,3 seconds

but the e270 cdi won...

My question is is this possible? or if not, how is this possible?
Did I do something wrong?

I dont think I did something wrong, when the lights got green I pressed the car in the kickdown till 100kmh.

Did I do something wrong with kickdown? or shouldnt I press it on kickdown till 100kmh...

All reactions are welcome..

things with and without wheels
I have a question for you , Is your car properly tuned?

Diesel vehicles usually have lower gear ratios , this would explain why he was able to accelerate faster than you.

bot cars are stock

and I still dont understand why he was faster

you say diesel has lower gear ratios
but we are talking here about an 3.2 v6 sport car
versus a 2.7 turbodiesel...

I should have won hehe :P

any other comments are welcome
or any ideas to beat him with both being still stock.. so no tuning

his tdi will have more torque, and et him moving froma stop quicker. run him a full 1/4 mile, you should win, or go from a roll. did you have your traction control on? that will slow you down.

from stop to 100km/h or 120km/h he won by getting in front of me when he passed me
but it was close...

also I dont think my traction control was on, because I never put it on
If you dont touch it , I think it should be off?

hmm he also said before we did the race that I will get him on the 1/4 mile
so we decided to do 0 to 100/120 km/h
but I have sit in his car, and we easily get the 200km/h always
in the clk we get 200km/h also easy but not that fast(my feelings about it)
Maybe because his car is more comfortable it looks like it is getting it faster/easier...

btw the car is my dads car... I heard also if someone doesnt drive his car aggresifly.. it takes some days to let the car accelerate fast...

hmm from roll to 100 we did once
I got him there, but he said that he didnt floored it that time...

My question : you guys think its quite normal that an e270cdi beats 320clk ?

second question: Any other ideas to beat him ( like dont kickdown the car in the beginning, but do it later or some other ideas)

I have driven my dads clk for 10 times now.. so I need some ideas from you guys..

all welcome

nah the traction control stays on unless you turn it off. when i was using regular tires, they would slip a tiny bit...but enough for the traction control to kick in and hold me back. i turned it off and the take-off was a lot faster. you can turn it back on at 20mph or so...doesn't make much of a difference at that point. plus, if you do something stupid after 20mph, you're covered.
