BAS and ESP light - mailfunction

Last night, got in my car to drive home from work (1hr drive). About 15 minutes into the drive, I heard a bell go off and then my cluster display said that I had a Brake Assist (BAS) problem, and then an Electronic Stability (ESP) problem. The BAS/ESP light was on in the lower left side of the instrument panel. When rotating through the cluster display again, going back to the malfunction screen indicates 3 malfunctions. One was a light bulb out (which I already knew about) and the other two were BAS and ESP.

The car seemed to drive fine for the duration of the trip. I had to make one brief stop (about 15 minutes). When I got back in, the lights did not come back on. The remainder of the drive was only about 5 minutes after that.

I believe it's about time to change brake pads.

Any idea of where to look other than just taking it to an MB Benz dealer?

Thanks!

00 clk 320 and 3 hondas. Darn I am down to 4 cars.
Do a quick search on BAS on this forum. There are lots and lots of threads about this problem. The most common cause is the brake light switch located at the brake pedal

I did a search. All of the posts I've found also include the ABS light coming on. In my case, the ABS light did not come on. That's why I asked.

i had the same problem with my 2001 clk430, and i found out that it was the brake light switch that is located behind the brake pedal. this is a common problem for these cars. it's about a $15 part, and you can change it yourself

Sometimes it happens when you don't push the brake pedal down enough.

Restarting the car will clear the warning codes.

If it keeps happening, you most likely need to replace the switch.
