Why soil your hands and have to deal with dirty motor oil, when you don't have to?

Dealer does it with a topsider for $100, which is just over the cost of oil and filter. Becareful because our oil filters arent like any normal car, there is a filter core you have to replace, not a metal canister. If you dont get it on just right, it will spit oil all over your engine bay and could cause real problems. Its doable, but i dont value the savings over the trouble.

Excellent point. It's not like changing the $5 oil filter on your 1994 Honda Civic!

I change my own oil every 5000 miles using Mobil 1 0W40. My buddy owns a shop and has a dyno with a lift so it basically takes me about the time to drain the oil to do an oil change!

Oil Cost - ~$40 (8 x $5)
Filter cost - ~$10-15 (you guy buy a pack of 4 on ebay for under $10 each)
Crush washer for oil plug - ~10c!

I brought it to my local MB dealer for an synthetic oil change once and the tab came to ~$125. It wasn't worth it to me when i can save about $75

I buy everything and have my local guy do the work.....not saving a huge amount but i dont have to make an appointment...and its closer....but if you find a dealer that will do it for $100...thats a pretty fair deal considering you pay $60 for oil (mine uses 9.5 qts) and $10 for the filter, and if you pay someone to put it in, then its another $15 in labor which brings you up to $85, and the inconvience of running around to get everything. So @ $100, its not bad at all.

It is worth it when you can do it twice for the price of what the dealership charges for 1. It's not so hard..just like changing any other vehicle's oil..unless your just lazy.

haters crazy
I do it myself every 3000 miles with Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W40 and OEM filter from dealer. I dont trust the dealer driving my car (I used to work at a dealer and Ive seen alot of things) so I do it myself.

I should, but do not for two reasons:

1. Laziness
2. I tend to break things when attempting a repair

Having learned my lessons over 16 years of Mercedes-Benz ownership, I hire a proper professional to have the work performed correctly the first time.
