Angry Removing fine scratches from black CLK

Does anyone know of a good way to remove extremely fine scratches from a black CLK's paint?? I've heard it's water-based paint, but I'm not exactly sure what that means as far as tendency to scratch. It seems like if I touch it with anything, I can see scratches.

Thanks,
Steve

this is just a suggestion: Try using 3M Fine rubbing compound. you can get it at Pep Boys. Then follow up with a good polish and wax.

or goto your local detailing shop and have them work them out

On new or old (1+ year) paint? Does it look like "clouds" or "holograms" (depending on the sunlight and view angle) rather than scratches?

Can you feel the "scratches" with your fingernail? If yes, then NO abrasive polish will remove it, not even fine, medium or heavy cut rubbing compounds. If you can't feel it with your fingernail, then start with the least abrasive polish and move up if the current polish is not doing the job after 2 or 3 tries. I would NEVER recco using a rubbing compond on the first shot. That's way overboard.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a 2001 Black Opal 430 Coupe. I thought I had these fine scratches over the car. However, depending on the angle and/or sunlight it appears to be hologram like lines in the paint.

Sagnr,

What you have just described is called spiderwebbing. A phenomenon applicable to black cars in particualr, as well as some other dark colours.

THERE IS NOTHING ANYBODY CAN DO ABOUT THIS, EXCEPT REPAINT THE CAR, AND EVEN THEN THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES THE REPAINT WILL NOT BE THE SAME.

Try Griot's polish #3. It removes not hides fine scratches. Completely gets rid of the "haze" and fine lines. I use it on my obsidean black with excellent results. Their wax is so-so. removes

I had some fine scratches on my brilliant silver CLK. I used Maguair's ScratchX. It literally made it disappear. My scratch was superficial though.
