i think they're all like that.. my clk 55's key range sucks, my friend's 2002 s500 key range sucks, and dont get me started on those older lazer keys where u have to be in the line of site with the door handle (1992-1999 s500).

my lame 1991 acura is awesome when it comes to the alarm range...i can be literally 50 feet away and when i press the button, the car locks or unlocks....

i think benz limited the range to prevent you from accidentally unlocking it or something

I can lock/unlock from about 25-30 feet no problem.

For auto-open/auto-close of the windows and sunroof (infrared), I have to be within 15 feet and direct line of sight.

take the car to your dealer, your service advisor will show you how to fix that, for free!
(my service advisor hates me now i think, after all the questions i bombard him with)

supposedly if you press the tip of the remote up against your chin it improves the range

2000 CLK-430 - Sold
I went ahead and added a 24" piece of copper to the end of mine, and now when i place it to my chin, it works like a charm all the way from the 20th floor.

Hi guyz,

New to the forum, pops been driving S classes since... well, long time.

NEhoo, got a W220, and the keyless entry doesn't work at ALL now for some reason. MB diagnostics says its the EIS and want 1400 CAD to fix it!!! We are not that rich, and bought the car used a couple years back, so 1400 is a LOT of money. Also have a feeling the service guy is trying to RIP ME OFF!!!!

anyone know where the sensor is, or what a possible fix is. car starts ok and recognizes the key fine, so the EIS thing doesn't sound right to me.

ps. sry for the threadjack ill just make another thread and post a link)

the car should start fine with a dead remote battery, but i'm guessing you already tried replacing the batteries? got a spare remote?

Custom CLK / 05 E500 4matic / 04 Acura TL <<Daily
This is what I do just put the key on your chine and hit the button it will ground you better and it will work to unlock or lock your car at a moderate distance.

CLK/ML
I've been using the same key for a year now. Lately I couldn't even close my windows with the remote so I broke out my virgin spare. Wow, I forgot how good the range was with a good battery. Change that sucker.
