radio frequency on key does not work

The IR part of my key works fine, but the radio frequency (open trunk, windows, locks from a distance etc,) just stopped working. In the web vernacular, WTF?

I changed the batteries and it didn't help.

video of w210 - anything change recently, eg tinting your windows with metallic? or
hanging fuzzy dice near your mirror? how about doing the silly but effective
chin trick? (touch smartkey to chin and pressing button) - does this help?

hmm, it does help. So, the ceiling mounted console is where the reciever picks up the rf signal. Two weeks ago, my wife tried to unlock the car, but kept the button down too long and opned the sunroof a crack. Well, it rained. Now none of the overhead lights work - and I suspect the RF reciever is gone too.

New car or new wife?

ah!...it 'does help' indicates it's not tango uniform, eh? so how about
something silly like opening the sunroof and aiming a fan or hair dryer
in there for a spell? i dunno, couldn't hurt, you think?

if it is working, though drastically limited in range, i'm thinking interference of
some sort...but still scratching my head here. overhead lights gone - how
about checking the fuse? if I misunderstood and the remote un/locking
is *not* working at all....then def check fuses...at least to rule out water
short circuiting.

not going to touch the other question unless it involves an E55 or some such.
if you do get one, give me a call and we'll go cruising.

LOL

An E55 can tempt me. And you're from Seattle too?! So, you know, leaving your sunroof open for even a day can be bad.

I'll check the fuse like ya said and see where that gets me.

Update

So, my original car battery finally died. I jumped the car and drove it to autozone and installed a brand new battery. And guess what?

My radio frequency works now. I guess my battery has been going for the past few months...and all it needed was a new car battery.
