Speaking of Round Hood badges...

Mine arrived today. The standrd round flat Star emblem...

How do I install this thing? LOL I lifted the hood and It looked a bit more complicated then I thought it'd be!

My fault for not looking first, and of course there are NO instruction I can find for replacing the stock standing star with a round flat.

So please, step by step, how do you accomplish this magic?

Regards,

1) Open hood and right underneath the emblem is a latch that needs to be turned so to loosen the star. You will see this from underneath.

2) The new badge must be fitted into the small holes on the part with the both with the plastic fitting supplied.

3) Put the new badge into the opening and find under the hood, the bolt that will be pointing down and place the flange onto the bolt and hand tighten with the nut supplied.

4) Check to make sure the emblem is straight and then hold while tightening up the nut underneath. If not mechanically inclined, may require two people to get exactly right!!

Hope this helps somewhat, sorry for not knowing exact terminology!!!

Where can I get a kit, and how much? The better the bargain the better.

Does MB Dealers have this?

I'm sure that all So. Cal. dealers carry this part for your MB, just call the parts dept. & ask for a flat hood emblem. Easy as that!!

The flat hood star from MB Dealers, aren't those for the SLK, CL, etc...? The reason I ask is because aren't those flat stars bigger, hence it will rest on top of, instead of recessed, in the dimple of the CLK hood?

I took a measurement... The base of the standing star is about 1 3/4" in diameter (and the 'dimple' is the same size).

But the flat star on the SLK, CL, etc... are about 2 1/4" in diameter.

Anyone here have close-ups of their flat star badge (and what size they are)???

The flat hood emblem from the dealer is for the ML, SL, and SLK.

If you own a vehicle with a Mercedes Star, you will need to order an aftermarket flat hood emblem. Try here:

The one they sent me is the mercedes spec part (with partnumber and lil german writing etc etc) nd it does indeed sit on top.

I'm gonna give it a week and then decide if I want to go back to the star..

Guys, I am wondering if the emblem from Evosport is the same as the one from performance products. Any ideas?

With regard to size, replacing the star with an emblem of the same size to sit in the recess would be too small IMHO. I think the larger one would be needed.

Thats exactly how I feel about the flat emblem.

It needs to be nice and big (not absurdly huge), but the dimple in the hood is way too small for a flat mercedes emblem.

I just want to see how a larger emblem looks on the hood, laying on top of rather then recessed.

Look forward to the picture(s).

here we go....

99 CLK 320 Black Opal Ash Interior...

The Flat Star

The Install from the bottom looking up.. notice the black rubberized flange which fits on the inside lip of the dimple.

We all want perfection, but it does not exist.. because the hood slopes a tiny bit more than the emblem, you end up with very tiny spaces at the bottom and top of the emblem. You could either bend the star ever so slightly before mounting, or after mounting, using a cloth to keep you from bending the star in an undesireable way. You cannot notice this unless you are looking dead at the piece from a few inches away. Not sure how big a deal it is to you.

To be fair, shadowing is a bit excessive due to daylight conditions.

From the middle of the hood looking forward...

From the front of the hood looking back...

The longer I keep mine on, the more I like it.
YMMV.

-Bouncer-

Bouncer, looks good pal. It is a shame about the curve not being perfect and I probably would attempt to do something about it. On the other hand, the size is good and it does give a CLK a more sporty mood.

Thanks for giving us the chance to see it! Nice pics.

You got this from performance products right?

that badge is the standard issue MB emblem. It is used on the SL, SLK, ML, etc...

I will be making the AMG badge in that size as well, but only if there is interest!!

Bouncer:

Thanks for the Pics.... your car looks great, and what a beautiful color for the CLK

OK... I'm gonna order myself a set, but I'm gonna try and bend the star to eliminate that gap from the top and bottom.

I'll post some pics if I am successful.

A few shots of mine

I also have the flat emblem and am very happy with it (although I do admit I wish it fit more flush against the hood). Here's a shot from the front and the side.

CLKfanDC: Looks great! Are those the stock 17" monoblocks? They look a little bigger in that side view.

Thanks, David. They are actually 18" Monoblocks (not 17").
