Steering Wheel Vibration

I have a 2000 W208 CLK. The problem is very weird, at low speeds at around 20-30mph there is no vibration at all. At around 50mph the vibration is noticeable via the steering wheel, at around 70-80+ mph the vibration disappears!

Maybe a coincidence but i dont know, i changed the front brake pads on Sunday, drove car on sunday it was fine. drove it on monday and the vibration started. i thought i might have knocked a wheel balance weight when i took the alloys off, i took the car to a garage today and had the wheels balanced.
The AMG alloys are not bent, are all fine. The car has brand new Pirelli PZero Rosso tyres (only around 1,000 miles on them).

I've checked the pressures, 30 psi in the front and 33 psi in the back.

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks

1. Make sure the car has proper alignment.
2. Have the car high-speed balanced (on car), if possible.

I had similar symptoms and this was the cure. Good luck.

yep the car had the wheel alignment done not so long ago, and the tyres have been balanced today.

so it can't be either of them...

also on breaking the breaking is smooth, no vibrations at all

I don't know what's causing the vibration but it has to be something other than alignment & balancing. I notice everyone is starting to have this probelm.

Sorted!

SORTED!

It was the bloody wheel balancing. The garage that did them yesterday are gonna get a raping from me tomorrow...im gonna look forward to it.

I took it in to get the bearings/arms/bushes checked - no fault found. So they span the wheels and the nearside front was well out.

Rebalanced, all OK!

Most Mercedes-Benz cars are very picky about having them balanced correctly....especially the CLK. Glad it worked out for you.

I am having the same problem. No vibration 0-40mph. Steering wheel shakes from 40-70. No vibration above 70mph. I have new rotors, new tires, alignment/balance. The shop told me my front left rim was bent, but wouldnt the vibration get continually worse with speed if this were true? Im not sure whether I should get the wheels rebalanced or what....

CLK 430 Coupe
OK, I'm having this same exact same problem and I can't figure it out either.
I have 19" x 8.5" all around and I have had the wheels balanced numerous times and I have had the alignment done 3 times, all my rims are true and the tires are new.

Is there anything else that I can try? This is a really annoying problem
