a friend of me and my brother has a CLK55. good or bad?

the thing is that on that CLK55 it doesn't have the NAV like my sister have the NAV on her car. NAV will be a important option for my sister because she can't read map, and also she doesn't have a sense of direction. the only direction she knows are those places where she had been to MANY MANY times.
Could the NAV that is currently used on the CLK320 be swap with the unit on the CLK55 and still been use? Do we have to subscribe to anything from MB again?
My brother and I think that the CLK55 AMG is a real keeper.
BTW the windshield was replaced on the CLK55 because the window was cracked by hitting a rock on the freeway.
any suggestion would be helpful TIA
Swapping in a stock NAV in a CLK that does not have NAV will cost more than an actual aftermarket Kenwood KVT-911.
But, if the primary feature on the car that your sister will use is the COMAND, then I would recommend either finding a CLK55 with the COMAND already installed, keep her current V6 or shop for a new W209.
Trying to add factory options after the purchase can disappointing and expensive.
the price is awesome for 55k. I don't know about all these taiwanse peps who be having gazillion dollars. One of my friend he's 27 got a s2000 decked out, his younger brother got a new m3 and bike and a condo all cash. Daiem, it quiet nice to have money.

CLK55 or CLK500 c'mon it's like "do i want regular(CLK500) or special(CLK55)"? stick with the CLK55 you won't regret the power of AMG!
You mentioned, that the windshield was replaced. No big deal if done correctly.
Check out the overhead constrols, switches near the rear-view mirror including the SOS switch. Push it and if you have a voice come on, say that this is a test and ask to give you your location.
Additionally, the windshield has a built in infra-red rain sensor, which according to amount of rainfall intensity, varies the speed of the wipers, when the wiper switch is at the first setting: Intermittent.
To test that it works, start car and set wiper switch to first setting. If it wipes every five seconds, the infrared sensor is defective, - the 5 second interval is the default, if defective.
If it does not wipe on the intermittent setting, squirt some water on the sensor (dark 1" square in front of the rear-view mirror). The more water you squirt on that sensor spot, the faster the wiper should wipe.
If the 55 passes all of these checks, - you've got a special car, a real rare treasure!

but if speeds or any performance is not an issue it might be a wasted CLK55. so she might still want the CLK500. but if it was me i would take the CLK55 in a seconed. obviously u would to.

i have driven that CLK55 once already and all i can say is that the torque is simply amazing from the 5.5 V8
i see what you are trying to do. I don't think it's a good idea. It looks like you want the car more than she does. why not you get the car and let her keep the command. for some people the Navi is important (hheheh like me, who can't read map or follow direction worth ****). The clk55 is a great car, but why burden her with a more expensive car and put her in target catagory where random people will want to race her cuz she got clk55.

yeah...LILRAJA...i guess you got me there...hehe...i do want the car more than my sister, but remember i already got my C32 which i love so very much. i wouldn't change it unless it is the next E55 AMG or the current M5...
btw she doesn't drive that fast, but i think she drives faster than most people. on the freeway she's averaged around 90 (i'm usually only around 85) my sis is the kind of gal that gives it a lot of gas off the line.

okay, now about the NAV, there is only few times that my sister actually use the NAV over the past two years (I can probably count with my hands). i can say that most of the time is me driving around in her car and using the NAV for fun. Usually when my sis go out to pub it's her friends that are doing the driving. even when she drives, her friend will BE the NAV.
Karl k: thanks for the advise man. i'll remember to check it out. it won't probably have any problems because the replacement was done by the Penske Motor MB dealer, but i'll still check it out just in case.
i think the only option missing on that CLK55 is the command sys (the Command is also a missing option on my own C32
, the sales forgot to inform me three weeks before the car went into production and by the time i want to make changes it was already too late)

Kenwood Navi is quite good. I have both the Alpine Navi system and the Kenwood. Alpine being a CD-Rom based unit and the Kenwood a DVD based system. I have to say the Kenwood is much better. Not that Alpine is bad, the Kenwood is just better... It could be because the Alpine is an older system... never tried the new DVD Alpine navi.
Other than the obvious speed loading difference in CD and DVD, Kenwood is more precise and the graphics are more detailed. Alpine directions are kind of slow, by the time the Navi tells you to turn right, you will probablly miss it.
Another benifit of the Kenwood is, if you use a Kenwood head unit, it is touch screen. no need to play with the remote.
I got pictures of both systems if you are interested.
CLK55, and get her a nice aftermarket Navi, with a DVD player!!! Heck throw in the TV tuner just for fun!!!!

I would go with the Pioneer P7300 and 7300DVD. You can get the nav, TV, and CD player all in a really nice setup for less than the Kenwood. The only major difference is that the kenwood comes with a built in TV Tuner.
