Highway MPG

I just drove to Ocean City....first "long" trip in my CLK. I reset the MPG computer once I was up to cruising speed (avg 62 mph). After an hour of steady driving and 60+ miles, I was averaging 26.8 mpg. I couldnt believe it....Overall I averaged about 22.5 mpg (a few red lights, traffic and tolls did me in)....but damn....thats not bad for a V8!

I presume you do mean OC, MD and not NJ since you in B-mo (I'm down near DC). Did you keep track of how many actual miles from B-mo to OC?

To me, there is no such thing as OC NJ.....its always OC Maryland.

I didnt keep track of the distance really, but it took me about 3 hours. I usually cut through DE using 404.....usually a lot less traffic....and usually at least 15 minutes quicker.

2002 CLK55
Chappy,

I have no clue how you average 27-28 on the highway and 20 in the city. I have a 2002 CLK55 that averages 23 when I baby it on the highway and 14 in the city. Granted I live in SF where there is a stop light or stop sign at the end of every block. What the secret or is it just my foot???

2002 CLK55
I just averaged 26.0 MPG on my CLK55 over a 40 mile trip on the highway. So it is possible. It just took every ounce or restraint from my heavy right foot.
