Exhaust Tip Detail
I read on here that you can polish your exhaust tip with steel wool and a mild cleaner....so I bought 0000 steel wool and Simple Green.
I scrubbed as hard as I could, but my tips went from a dull, rough and pitted black, to a shiny, glossy, and smooth black. Are the exhaust tips on a 2000 CLK430 chrome? If so, how do I get the black off??? I hate it.

I use Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish to keep them clean.

I have a silver 430....some how I thought the exhaust tip should be chrome....why would they put a black metal tip on the exhaust?? Maybe I should scrub harder? Or use tougher steel wool?

If you don't have a chrome tip, no amount of scrubbing is going to get that thing shiny. You may be able to purchase a chrome tip if desired.

Your tip has 1 screw on the bottom which will allow the cover to slip off. The chrome AMG tip is much heavier and is fully chromed. AMG tip attaches with the same screw under side. Don't buy the chrome tip for a 320, it will not fit. I kept watching ebay and the classifieds and finally found one (bought it used for $100 and sold it for $100 when I sold my car).
