dead battery rechargeable?

ok, so i've left my car for about a month or so without starting it, and now that battery is completely drained... the first 2 times when i try to start it i can still hear it turn over, but now that im charging the battery, it won't even turn over... the battery reads 11.xx Volts without the charger clamped on, and with the charger clamped on, it read 13.XX Volts... shouldn't this be enough for the car to crank? but all i hear is click and nothing happens? any ideas? it's a 2000 CLK320

The thing is that a battery might hold an initial charge of 11 or 12 volts but a true test of the battery will be with a load tester. If you dont have one take it to the nearest autozone and they will do a load test on it. You will probably see the battery with an initial charge of 11 volts and as soon as a load is placed it will drop all the way down to 0. This means that you need a new battery. But before you do this you should try doing a slow charge for a good while and then try the load test. But to be perfectly honest if you have already done a proper charge with a charger and it doesnt crank anymore then the batter is probably dead. Sorry

If it's only a couple of years old it may recover. If it's the original battery, it's due to be replaced.

w/o going into the whole blather on battery construction, i'll just jump towards
the end.

- pop the caps and perform specific gravity reading of the fluid
- examine the electrolyte fluid level and top off with distilled water if needed
- charge overnight with 10amp trickle charger NOT charging while driving
- check specific gravity again to ascertain full charge
- healthy battery should not have exhausted after one month
- only after performing the above can one determine battery health
