Thats complete BS!

In terms of body kits theres only a handful you can get. The ones that come to mind are Lorinser, Carlsson RS replica, AMG new style replica.

Oh and welcome newb!

OEM HU Issue

The issue with the OEM head unit is that is connected to the CD changer via a fiber optic cable. Not a big deal, since you can get another changer, but it will require a rewire job and the factory amp will probably need to be changed out. While replacing the head unit, it would be a good idea to replace the P.O.S. Bose speakers with upgrades. Another thing to consider is the stereo steering wheel controls, which you will give up unless there is a head unit that is compatible with them.

I installed a Kenwood Excelon touch screen DVD player and like was said earlier, the changer was no longer compatible. However, the factory amps were able to be wired in to the new unit. I believe the guy said he used a wiring harness for a VW jetta to do it. I don't know how he came to find that out, but I didn't care. oh yea and you don't have to worry about negative consequences for removing the factory HU, there aren't any

I just installed my Alpine HU and removed the becker.

Buy a VW harness and wire ONLY the remote for the factory amp, the hot, switched, and ground.

Then splice 4 rca jacks into the speaker wires of the VW harness and plug the rca's in the head unit.

You're done.......... ten minutes. You don't even need a fit kit since it is a single din. plugs directly up. The rca's are low voltage.

Total cost $20

I am also in San Jose and would be looking to have a reputable shop install a new unit. Is there a list of compatable head units?

Hey man, don't forget to get the largest photo you can of your car and add it to your signature. And also list ever car you have ever owned and every mod you have ever performed (or plan to perform) including tune-ups and oil changes.
