How LOUD is your motor noise in the cabin?

Today I changed the motor mounts and tranny mount on my Lexus and now I can't even hear my car run, even under acceleration. When I got back in my 430 it was quite loud in comparison and I thought maybe it's time for motor and tranny mounts for it also. Mileage is only in the 60's, but ya never know.

I was wanting to know if you guy's could tell me about your engine noise in cabin.

not that loud....road noise is my biggest issue, due to the wheels/tires

I'm not trying to be stupid, but with the Eisenmann race exhaust I can pretty much always hear something and I'm always happy to hear what I hear. So no problems for me. I want to hear that sound. Then again, it's not technically the engine I'm listening to.

The engine in my CLK55 is fairly quiet (a little louder than my old E-Class), but the exhaust is definitely noticeable.... which is good..

Beside the exhaust's noise, is there any way to fix it? The vibration as well.? Althought mine is not very bad, but it's good to know if there is a way or somthing to fix, thanks.

Road Noise

Just replaced all engine and tranny mounts last week....it was not voluntary service In terms of engine noise increase or decrease....I'm gonna have to say I noticed no difference in cabin noise.

That's really odd you didn't notice a change. Those mounts control a huge amount of noise and vibration. What was your issue that made you change yours? Could they had been ok to begin with?

My problem is with a lot of rumble in the cabin. I swear you could drop a pin in my lexus and hear it hit the carpet after the new mounts were installed.

Jury....you have a point...

I had a Dukes of Hazard moment in downtown Atlanta and blew them all out at once. So aside from driving to the dealer for service I guess I really didn't have much in the way of opportunity/time to hear a difference.

It may very well have been much louder....my mind was racing all the way to the service drive.....'Holy crap how much is this gonna cost me?$$$$' so I wasnt paying much attention to the noise level.

CLKs are just much noiser than Lexus. I've driven both and despite having changed my CLK motor mounts that were reportedly bad I noticed no difference in sound.

no engine noise at all

After reading this thread I payed more attention to the engine sound of my car. No sound at all. I do hear the exhaust (I have Carlsson), and some vibration which lasts a few seconds on cold mornings close to the exhaust (my guess: this is because changing to Carlsson).

My engine is very quiet, indeed. I can hear more noise from the suspension. Even more because my car is veeery low with 18" wheels, and the streets around here aren't exactly Silverstone...

Not really any motor noise. Had to replace my engine mounts around 30,000 miles, luckily, still under warranty.

I have heard that engine noise may also be caused by faulty catalytic convertors.

motor mounts

how much were the replacement motor mounts?

my 320 is now shaking so much i need to put it into neutral at stoplights. its like a city bus.

by comparison, i actually tried to start my 16 year old infiniti last week while it was already running because it idles so smoothly and quietly

99 E320, 54k old. just about zilch engine noise, hardly any vibration save for
those passed through from road via 18" E55 wheels/tires and Vogtland lowering
springs. almost zero wind noise. so quiet that i hear a CD in the glove box or
something small in the door storage. Conti OEM tires.

no sound at all after FATMAT the whole car; Trunk, doors, floors,..etc
It made a huge difference . Tremendous bass improvments after all . Highly recommended for noise problems.
