Where can I buy a polished OEM exhaust tip?

The tip on my car is black and rusted. It just makes the back of the car look bad.. I noticed 01 CLKs have a polished tip.. anyone upgrade theirs? Where can i buy this thing online for a fair price?

I've researched this one: this is a stealership only item. Last time I checked they were running about $125 for the non-AMG and $250 for the AMG version. Other option is to take your existing one in and have it chrome plated.

thanks

does anyone know the difference between the 320 and 430s exhaust tips? I have a 430

How are those two compared to a factory tip?

I would have the tip chromed but I've been told it's illegal in NY and also it's a part which gets a lot of heat, that might ruin the finish real quick. I'm going to see if it can be polished instead.

illegal? that's the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. what's the justification there?

Don't quote me on this, i didn't research this really, just going by what I've been told.. it sounds silly but apparently the justification is the hazardous waste produced during the chroming process doesn't sit right with the EPA.

If anyone knows any chrome plating shops in the NYC area let me know.

Actually a chrome plating shop is where you need to verify that information (about the legality). I know it's illegal to paint a car outside and THAT is a EPA law but chroming? I'm a little skeptical about that.

You are right.. I got the info from a wheel shop, figured they'd know a bit more than I do. But they are wrong. I found some local motorcycle shops which do chroming.

I removed the exhaust tip yesturday, comes off real easy. It's painted black and the finish began to come off and there are hints of rust. I stripped it down a bit and sprayed it with glossy silver paint. It looks a whole lot better but still not how it should in my eyes. So I'll probably take it to one of these shops.

Also, I considered something like this:

That looks like an E55 style tip...

Can anyone confirm? I actually like that look of the dual tip instead of one big oval one.

The chrome tip for the 320 will not fit on the 430. If you are patient, someone will post the amg tip FS in the classifieds. I bought one for $90 for my 99 430 and when the car sold, I posted the tip and got $100....so they are out there. I also bought a pair of amg tips for my 02 from the classifieds.
