CarPC (laptop), DL065A, NAV, backup sensors, radar, bluetooth in my CLK430 (w208)

Finally, almost complete. Replaced the COMAND 2.0 with CarPC. Still need to take out the aftrmarket Motorola bluetooth since I can use the intergrated carPC bluetooth- also need to install the front and backup cameras and then I'm done. Here are some pictures.

Nice! . So I gather you're using a custom front-end?

How do you get HDTV? Over wireless internet or do you have a TV antenna?

I like the screen with gauges on it. Is is out of a video game or can you really put the CLK's gauges on your screen? Could be very interesting to add in all the stuff Stuttgart left out : oil temp, oil pressure, tranny temp, vacuum/boost, fuel/air ratio, etc. etc.

Is the little screen in the ashtray any better to use than Parktronic?
How about a bigger screen taking up the ashtray and the cigar lighter?

For HDTV, I use the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950 USB 2.0 adapter. Connected it to the main Car Antenna.

The screens are real - just was not running the car at the time I was taking the picture. I am using the ODBPros USB unit, connected to the car and the laptop. I can customize the interface to any kind of gauges I want to. I think it can read over 100 measurements - haven't played enough yet.

I think my car did not have a Parktronic option (2001 model). This is an aftermarket one. The screen is wireless too - no additional wiring needed. What I like is that the sensors in the back look like factory. I need to fix the mounting of the screen a bit - it looks a little sloppy.

I think you or someone could go into a profitable little business if you developed a rectangular screen that takes the place of the ashtray and cigar lighter and gives the owner the choice of some 100 measurements! Even 10 would do fine. Does this technology exists already and if so where do I buy it? It would give the MB owner, few of whom smoke any more, the latest technology tucked under the burlwood.

I'm not gonna rain on your parade because being a coder myself I like this type of thing, but I found it waaaay too hard to re-invent the wheel and went with a (free) customizable front-end from mp3car.com when I did mine.

I would check them out and see how you can integrate your hardware with the half-dozen or so available front-ends that they already have, and that a huge community already contributes to...

This is what Frodoplayer used to look like almost a year ago on my Maxima...

I have a laptop like you so I can move it around between cars and makes it easy to sync with the home-based mp3 server.

Again, not dissing your work because I think it's great -- same reason I went with mine -- I'm just saying that you could just use what someone else did already and build up on it, or at least grab some ideas.

Check out mp3car.com/vbulletin under their front-ends and see

Had similar but way much simplier setup on my previous car. The biggest problem was with HDD. Hitting any bump on the road caused the hole thing to freez. Now I have these thoughts about building something based on flash memory.
