Crusie Control

I am an MB newbie, having recently purchased a 2000 CLK 320 Convertible. I have taken it out for a few long road trips since July, and have noticed something unusual with my with cruise control. If I keep my set speed to about 79 MPH and under, it works fine. If I go 80 or faster, any change in grade, hills or dips, causes my cruise control to simply disengage. If I am travelling on flat road it is fine, but if I start to go up a hill, then a few seconds later it will kick off. If I begin to travel downhill, it will kick off almost immediately.

Is this normal? Is there a set speed cap on MB cruise control, or is this indicative of a problem?

I have been browsing these forums for months and really appreciate all the great information you guys have provided. Thanks for your time!

Do you have larger tires on the rear than you do in the front? Some people have reported that differences in the front to rear rolling circumference can cause the cruise to disengage. If the tires have the same circumference, check the air pressures. A few pounds won't matter, but if one is under 20 PSI . . . . .

No, I have the same size tires all around. I have basically a factory setup, as I am not really into all the mods and such. My pressure is set to exactly what's recommended for front and back.

The ABS sensors are used to count the rotational speed of each wheel. One may be on the fritz.
