Level of Difficulty to replace Starter on 99 CLK430?
It seems I need to replace my starter and am considering doing it myself, but am not particularly skilled. If anyone can provide any visibility and/or advice in this regard, it would be greatly appreciated.

This is from the WIS:
1) Disconnect the battery.
2) Remove the lower engine compartment paneling.
3) Remove the right engine mount
===> 3 a) Remove the mechanical fan
===> 3 b) Remove mass air flow sensor (???)
===> 3 c) Hook a hoist to the engine (do people really use that pre-existing hook on the front of the engine?) and raise it a bit.
===> 3 d) Remove shield and mount.
4) Remove the electrical lines on the starter.
5) Remove the two bolts that hold the starter in place.
6) Slide that puppy out.
7) As expected, installation is the reverse of removal.
IIRC StapleGun said he his starter with the mechanical fan and MAF in place. He also used a block of wood and a floor jack instead of a hoist.
Six bills? I'd personally pull the original starter and have it rebuilt at a shop. My local guy charges about $75 and takes about 90 minutes.

Thanks for the info Marcus. You saved me from getting in over my head...decided to get a shop to handle the job. Am hoping all ends well, but only time will tell. Anyway, thanks again for your help!
