Eisenmann Muffler question

We were planning to install the Eisenmann muffler I recently got and finally looked at bottom side of the exhaust pipe. Is this dent a designed-in feature or was it damaged somewhere along the way? I see no reason for it to be there!

(Sorry about the picture sizes)

Doesn't look normal to me. But if everyone is saying its normal then I guess there shouldn't be a problem. I don't have an eisenmann exhaust but I have been installing other mufflers on other vehicles Ive owned in the past and never had a dent like that in any one of the systems I've had. If it bothers you best bet is to get that part cut out and install another piping, that shouldn't be hard or expensive any muffler shop can fix it for under 20-30 bucks. But if you want to sell it let me know I'm interested!

Thanks to everyone for your replies! I guess if it's supposed to be there I'll leave it alone. It just seems strange to me...

It's probably a design technique to adjust how turbulent the flow is around that bend to bring out certain frequencies...ie, changes the flow to make it sound better or maybe it reduces the performance losses around the bend

(mine's that way too)

I would be curious as to why it is there. I would have questioned that too. Has anyone written to ask what or why?

WW99CLK where did you get yours and price? Love the sound of that pipe.

I picked them up from the Eisenmann factory where they are handbuilt and I guarantee that they are meant to be like that with the bend on it. Just dont ask me why exactly cause I didnt ask that. I am a little curious now as to the purpose of it...I did look under the car and it seems to be for clearance issues from the looks of it though.

When I got my race exhaust I thought the same thing "it's F'ed up". I went straight to the source...Eisenmann. According to Eisenmann they make the same exhaust to fit the coupe and the convertible. There is supposedly a brace on the drop top that runs under the exhaust. Due to this extra brace the exhaust is modified to clear it. I can not verify this but that is what Eisenmann says.

Question

Are there any Eisenmann performance muffler options for the Mercedes 300E? I mean bolt-on fit, I don't want to have to mess too much to get it installed, and as close as possible to the original in terms of mounting, but with better performance. Thanks.
