Hi guys,
I'm going to buy some 18" alloys for my CLK and I have a couple of questions. Firstly, if I bought a slightly wider wheel for the rear, would it make that much difference to the ride? I've been told it would but the difference in cash is around £100. Secondly, what would be the best size tyre for this wheel? The general consensus seems to be that 225/40/18 would be the best fit.
Any advice/hint/tips would be greatly appreciated.
Shaz.

I'm running 225/40 on an 8 1/2 rim for the front and 255/35 on a 9 1/2 on the back. You could do 235 and 265 which would fit the rims better, but the rolling diameter will be slightly larger than stock and affect your speedometer. I haven't done the calcs but shouldn't be more and a couple of percent. Also, the 235/265 sizes are not available in some tires.

I tried...
Goodyear Eagle F1's.
Fronts: 235/40/ZR18
Rears: 265/35/ZR18
...they don't fit on my 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 wheels.
I will try 225/40 and 255/35, I'm told they will fit my 2001 CLK430.

They fit on the wheels but not on my car.
The front strut screw touch the top of the front tire and the rear tire touches the inside wheel well.
So the shop couldn't install them on my car.
