Clear up the cloudy headlight lense

I was in Advance Auto Parts store and found a product called CV Headlight Restorer/Defogger. This stuff is fantastic. If you follow the directions your lights will look brand new. I've tried a lot of stuff to avoid paying MB for new lights and this was the ticket!!!!! It comes in an aluminum foil looking bag.
Good luck to all who try it.

John, what a diplomat, great work The Jury's product is 6.00 bucks and the restorer I purchased was 21.00. It is supposed to be a permanent fix so you don't have to redo the process. It's all a matter of choice. Either way I hope you are satisfied with the end result. Those lights cost too freaking much to replace from MB Peace

rub it on the outside. If you buy the CV restorer the lense will continue to look milky until the very last step in the process. And then you'll feel the smile coming over your face when you rub that light and you can actually see inside of it . You'll want to show the wolrd and can't wait for night fall to see if you can see better with the clearer lense.

I did it last night

I went to the local Kragen and got a bottle of PlastX for $7.99. I first tried it on one light, rubbed it for like 3-5 minutes with the paper towel. It does help a little bit but I think I should not expect a lot from out of 7 bucks . I then apply it over to the last 3 lights and let it stay there until this morning. I wiped it out with water. Still help a bit but not quite lot!

But thank a lot anyway!

It's liquid sandpaper, it does not matter how long you let it stay on there. We had Autobrite, 3M, Meguiars, and a few other brands we used in the detail shop when I was detailing years back and we bought the very best all the way up to $40 per bottle. The plastix is the most effective of them all used properly, the rest is overpriced and does nearly as much or less. You can't rub a dollar bill across the headlight and make it clean, dollar amount will not dictate it effectiveness. If you go out and spend $35 per bottle for 3m liquid sandpaper, 3m medium buffing compound, and 3m high gloss finish wax, you have $105 in what amounts to PlastiX.

You can't just rub it on like windex and expect it to eat it clean, it's a friction driven product. Mercedes headlights have a clear coat over the plastic and when the clear coat becomes damaged it begins to disintegrate. The only thing that will properly remove the clear coat is liquid sandpaper. PlastiX is a combination of light grade sand and glass and a wax polymer. It does both steps in one.

You're not going to go out there for 2 minutes and rub it on like windex and see any results.

The Jury is right! Price doesn't necessarily make a product better, I used two other products (with negative results) and was very disappointed. I found the CV restorer on a humbug, I bought it and flopped out when I saw the finished product. My headlights look very good. I paid 21.00 for the stuff. I didn't mine that especially when I saw the lights. I scrubbed, rubbed and made sure I followed the directions to the letter.. I never saw the Plastix, but different stokes for different folks.

On the flipside, Hey Jury do you know anything about the Rikensport xenon light installation?

This is your clear coat being eaten. Like on a car it requires a wet sand to remove it........... or liquid sandpaper which is better for clear items.

GOTTA AGREE WITH YOU RODWILK...THAT CV STUFF DOES THE TRICK. I ACTUALLY HAD SANDED MINE PREVIOUSLY AND THEN USED RUBBING COMPOUND. IT HELPED BUT THEY STILL SEEMED DULL. CV PRODUCT PUT A BIG FAT SMILE ON MY FACE...THE STUFF WORKS SO $21...NO PROBLEM!

If they seemed dull after sanding the top layer down then you didn't buff properly. After you take the layer of clear off, the only thing left is fresh plastic! Buff it and it becomes clear.

headlight

Thanks, I'll try these products and post before/after photos. Oddly enough I was just looking at me headlights this morning thinking this looks terrible.

It works well!

Skeptical, but realizing my wife's 01 ML 320 had hazey, yellowed lenses, I ran to the auto part store and bought the CV restore. Realizing that you are sanding off the clear on your headlight lenses, you have to take the time to do it right, and buff them thoroughly afterward. The key to this product is the clear sealant that is applied at the very last step that makes the headlights look new again. Would definitely recommend if you want to make your lights look new again.

The lights on my CLK looked terrible. They took away from the beauty of the vehicle. I was glad to see my car feel better too after the transformation. I think I was more happy that I didn't have to buy a set of new lights to appreciate to overall beauty of the car looking head on. Just like the info that The Jury gave, what ever works best for you, make it work for you as long as you are happy at the end of the day.

Believe me i buffed it several times and it did not look anything like it does now. The clear coat you put at the end of the process makes them look like new! But..to each his own.
