my trans. went out.....

somehow i no longer have 4th gear whatsoever. there is no way to fix this other than buy a new (used) transmission. any ideas as to where i can find a used transmission? also, will a 1998- 1999 clk 430 trans work in my 1999 clk 320? has any one here ever replaced a trans mission? the dealership says they want $9,800 for the trans and install. i simply cant afford that right now. any one have any advice?
also, when i looked on ebay, a couple of the 1999 clk transmission also were listed for c230 and c320. do all of these cars use the same transmission?
any help would be very appreciated!!!!!

Wow, $9800 for a new transmission? That is almost twice what the cost of other dealers have quoted to repair the transmission in our CLKs. I recommend that you contact the bureau of automotive repair so others can be wary of this dealer and find a respectable dealer who isn't out to screw you and rake you over the coals. Replacing the tranmission control module might fix the issue. Have you ever replaced the fluid and filter in the transmission?

they did replace the fluid when they checked for metal in the fluid. the trans. control module does need replaced as well.
does anyone know if the control module can be bought used or does it have to be brand new and programmed from the factory?
also, does anyone know if i can use a trans. from a 430?
i would seriously appreciate any help anyone has to offer....

Bro, you might get in touch with these guys who are advertising a rebuilt unit on eBay. I can't vouch for them and am in no way affiliated with them, just trying to help you out. Also, I would be VERY skeptical about both the transmission and control unit going out. It would seem that the transmission could fail either electronically or mechanically while the control unit would be an electronic failure. What are the chances that both would fail at the same time? A third party verification (i.e. an indy or another dealer taking a look) might be a good idea. Let me know what you find out...

Sun Valley Mercedes Dismantlers has been rebuilding MB transmissions forever. Before I bought my CLK, I asked them about the 722.6 transmission. They said if it fails, depending on what's wrong, a 722.6 can be rebuilt for $1400. That's with a 2 year warrantee. They ship nationwide.

Thanks for the info Marcus. Makes me feel better about my 99 model as I approach the 100K mark soon.

is this trans the same one that came in a 1999 320?
and does the 1999 430 and 320 use the same transmission?

I'm not sure if that trans is the one in your 320. I would contact them to confirm. I am not sure if the 320 and 430 share a common transmission. I know the 430 and 55 have different transmissions so I can't imagine the 320 motor with the same trans as the 430 powerplant.

2002 CLK430
The CLK320 uses a 722.607. The CLK430 uses a 722.623.
