Failed Emissions test.

Hi,
I've got a 2000 CLK 320. I moved from Fl to Las Veags. I had to get an emissions test. I failed and this was the reason.

The following monitors were not ready:
Catalyst
EGR System
Second air system

Anyone know what that means and how do I reset or get them on?

Thanks......

Sounds like the battery has been disconnected within the past 100 miles or so.

MarcusF is exactly right...I just bought an 03 E500 and failed the emissions test for exactly the same reason and I know for a fact the dealer replaced the battery within the last ~30 miles...need to drive at least 100 miles or so after the fact and take it back in for a re-test after the computer has enough information to register emissions readings.

The seconadary air monitor will set while the car is at idle. all you need to do is start the car in the morning when its cold, you will hear the air pump turn on for a few minutes. Then the pump will turn off, then it will turn back on for a few seconds. Thats the ECU's way of checking to make sure the pump did work. For the CAT, you would need to drive steady freeway speeds for about 5 - 10 miles. As far as the EGR, you would need to drive steady freeway speeds for a couple miles, and let the car decel as if you were exiting the freeway. That should do it.

Thank you

Thank you all. You are right. I put in a new battery in last week but haven't driven the car much. I will do what you say and let you know.

Thank you again.

Marcus, I just want to take the time to say thanks for all your spot-on advice. You are invaluable to this forum and a certain other one as well.
