2001 CLK430 Cab.
Talking New Owner CLK430 w/ questions.

Hi everyone. I just bought my 2001 CLK430 from Mercedes Benz here in FL. It has 8000 miles, is Silver with grey interior and a black top and drives like a dream. I have a few questions:

(1) How can I find out what options are on the car?

(2) Can I get a copy of the original window sticker?

(3)Do I have the MB version of Onstar in the car?

Sorry for knowing so little but I read the owner's manual yesterday and am still dizzy.

Go onto the MB site. Go to pre-owned and select the year/model of your car. It'll tell you all the standard features and what options are available. Presumably from there you are intelligent enough to determine what you have in your car and what you dont :-).

I don't imagine dealers keep the original window sticker somewhere, although frequently they might store it in the docs. Getting a duplicate is going to be kind of tough - maybe something close to an option, but why would you want it ?

yes, the tele-aid is the MB 'Onstar' equivalent. You want to make sure you push that button and register your car with them. The MB rep who sold you the car should guide you through some of the steps (at least our rep always sits down and tells you the features). .

Your options could be...

For the cabriolet:

Stand alone options:

- Heated seats (you'll have switches on center dash console)

- Multi-countour seats (if you have this, there are controls forward of seat belt latches)

- Comand (that one would be obvious)

- Dealer installed CD changer (w/o cell phone)

Factory installed options packages:

- K4: heated seats, xenon headlights & washers, rain sensing wipers (the center dash console would have switches all accross the top)

- K2: cell phone & CD changer (factory installed)

- K2a: adds voice recognition w/ K2 pkg

the other option would be two-tone leather (probably don't have this - it would be ash/dark ash possible with brilliant silver)

Otherwise the interior colors would be charcoal or ash w/ the silver.

Optional would have been to have the ash convertible top with a CLK430 & silver paint.

Thanks for replies. Yes, I do wish I could tell what I have but there are some things maybe you could help me with:

- The manual talks about the passenger mirror, when the car is put in Reverse, moving downwards to show you the curb. Mine doesn't do this even though I follow instructions in manual.

-the manual describes a switch to turn on the Activated charcoal filter on the Automatic climate control sysytem but it doesn't say it's optional. Was this an option? I don't have this switch.

-I can't program my garage door opener into opener on mirror. Perhaps I have a strange system - Chamberlain. Manual says I can call Mercedes and I will.

Are there any stickers anywhere in car which tell what options were on car when built. My Corvette has several which list. by code, what options were installed on car.

Thanks again. Don S.

The mirror adjustment button must be pushed to adjust the passenger side for this feature to work.

It's in the temperature climate control area. It's usually the center button on the top row. It looks like a a bunch of lines with an arrow pointing through a bunch of other lines (their icon for filter).

Have you followed the directions ? The only problem is on older models whether you have a rolling code garage door opener. If you do, then the older Mercedes door openers will not open those. I'm not sure which year the break was, if it was 2001 or 2002.

I have the manual but do not have the button even though I know what it looks like.

my opener must be a non-standard one, and its about 15 years old.

Thanks, don S.

Charcoal filter? I don't have a button "with a bunch of lines with an arrow pointing through a bunch of other lines".

That picture looks just like mine and is different than the one in the owner's manual. You may have been sold a car not built to US safety standards also.

When you press the right side mirror adjustment button and leave it there, the passenger side mirror should tilt down when the car is in reverse.

Specs and such...

The sticker on the driver's side door jamb will state for U.S. models "...complies with US federal safety, bumper and theft prevention system in effect according to date of manufacture..."

The US VIN's start off with WDBxxxxxxxxx for example: a CLK cabrio would be WDBLKxxx and the coupe is WDBLJxxxx

v6 = 65 v8 (4.3L)= 70 v8 (5.5L) = 74 after the letter J or K in the VIN.

European models VIN start off with the chassis series 208, 201, etc then the rest of the body style, engine, check digit and sequential codes.

There's two places to look for option codes: there's a data build sheet printed on blue & white paper (about 7 1/2" x 3") or under the trunk mat printed on a black sticker by the battery.

The W208 has a pollen & dust filter that's part of the HVAC system. There may be mis-prints about the activated charcoal filter (I think this is for S-class & CL-class cars), since my 2001 manual doesn't mention this.

PS: you should also have your Radio Data Code card - credit card sized plastic card with the 4 digit code to re-program your radio if the battery goes dead or must be disconnected for servicing.

This is a anti-theft feature to discourage a thief to steal the stereo - so don't leave the data card in the vehicle.

I think you're reading the wrong owner's manual.
