Question Brakes and Rotors

It is time to replace brake and rotors on my 00 CLK430. Doing some research and getting some estimates, auto shops recommended to only go with Mercedes parts.
I was told to do not use another brands because it will make noise. I was told this but not only the dealer but also some other shops.

Any input on this? Did anybody experienced noise by using another brands?

Have a nice day,

I just ordered R1 Concepts slotted and drilled rotors for less than OEM costs. I read goood things about them here and other car forums. I am awaiting shipment but feedback from the various car boards was positive.

Stock Mercedes brake parts are usually pretty good, but stock doesnt mean you have to buy rotors and pads that say Mercedes on the box. Several companies provide these parts to Mercedes and its always cheaper to buy from them instead of the dealer.

I used OEM Brembo rotors and OEM Pagid pads.... so far they have been excellent. No noise....smooth as glass...

How many miles are you getting out of a set of pads? What about rotors?

Ceramic brake pad option

FWIW, I have just replaced pads & rotors ('99 CLK320) all around with aftermarket "posi-quiet" brand ceramic pads and solid rotors. Parts cost $350 for both front and rear. After 1k miles, they seem to live up to their billing. Good stopping power, less dust, no break-in period and, best of all, no squeaks.

Quick question, when I went to dealer to replace the brakes, they ask me to replace the rotors as well. Is it necessary, is there any good after market rotors that last longer? Thanks in advanced.

Oem brakes can make noises also. My brother just bought a CLK 430 a couple of weeks ago and the brakes were just done at a MB dealer (verified by reciept & me). The brakes were squealing under low load long braking. I took them apart and put sil-glyde were needed to fix the problem. As long as you don't buy the cheap China junk you should be fine.

I would also like to hear some more feedback. I'm also due for brakes and rotors. My warning appeared a few weeks ago.

I've wondered about those ebay rotors, I was thinking about getting some when it was time to replace mine. So you haven't had any problems? Thanks for letting us know, now I know for future reference.

R1 Concepts

So what is the real deal with R1 Concepts? I have been contemplating between buying R1 concepts or plain Brembo rotors with Akebono Ultra Euro pads.

Has anyone had any experiences with R1 Concepts with respect to cracking / warping? I'm just a little hesitant and wonder if their rotors are reliable.

Red face Brake Noise

Brake noise is caused by a harmonic vibration set up between the pad and the brake rotor. This can usually be effectiviely eliminated by applying anti-squeal compound which bsically just interupts that harmonic. Now if that doesn't work ( or you want to take steps to ensure that it will not be an issue ) you can put a 45 deg bevel on the leading edge of the brake pad. Many performance brake pad manufactures will ship their pads with this bevel already there. This is ( of course ) different from the low-tech wear indicator which is a bent piece of metal that eventually will contact the rotor when the pad wears away. What an AWFUL sound!
