Drivers side mirror discolored??

My driver's side mirror has recently taken on a copper colored discoloration. It looks like when I press on the glass you can see it move around the edges, like there is a liquid in there. Like it looks when there is a liquid between 2 pieces of glass. Has anyone else ever had this problem. Is it possible to get the back off the mirror and get in there, right underneath the outside glass? I already have the mirror removed from the housing. Thanks for the help.

It seems your mirror needs to be replaced, I personally haven't had it happen, but that's what it sounds like happened. Do a search on here and you'll find others have had this happen. Btw, I also heard it cost around $300 to replace, good luck with that!

My drivers side mirror is doing the same as yours. It's the oil that is causing the discoloration.DevilsAngel is correct - $300.00 to replace.

I had this replaced a couple a years ago when the car was relatively new, the mirror glass just cracked for no reason and was replaced under warranty. However my service advisor told me that it could be claimed under the car's insurance. In Mass. insurance covers all the glass in the vehicle, it worth a shot give your insurance a call.

The mirror is heated. The liquid (oil) is heated , not the mirror. The cheap fix is to do what someone suggested - get a glass shop to cut you a piece for over top.I'm getting mine replaced, I like the mirror defrosting in the winter.

Mirror

I Had The Same Thing Happen To My Clk And I Had A Glass Shop To Put A Mirror Over My Distorted One. It Cost Me About 30 Dollars Compared To The 350.00 From Mb. It Has Worked Out Fine For Me. No Problems.

Good Luck

yeah, I have a similar problem. Mine actually looks Like what oils looks like in water. I was thinking about going w/ the ebay arrow kit. But as a quick fix I may go with the quick cover up.

Every CLK I’ve ever owner had this issue. You can actually fix it yourself for free and it’s very easy. You just won’t have the auto dimming function anymore, and your glass won’t defrost as quickly. Both of which you won’t really notice.

Wear gloves when doing this, you don’t want to get the fluid on your hands. Peel the plastic trim around the glass off, and then you will be able to remove the glass layer above the mirror (fluid is between the glass and mirror). The connector should come off with it the plastic trim, and the glass you can chuck. Depending on how long it’s sat with the leaked fluid, the mirror may or may not be discoloured. Clean the fluid off well, and if you’d like you can even polish it. Tape up the connector in the side mirror assembly so it doesn’t get water in it, and you are ready to use the mirror again. Reconnect the two small cables that connect directly to the mirror. This can be a temporary or permanent fix, one of my clks has had this fix for years, and the other I just finally found a new mirror for it at a pick and pull for like 5$.

Recent trip to the Stealership, and they quoted me $1100.00 for that glass. Not going to occur!

I believe that a W209 mirror will fit and have all functionality (dimming, heat)- unless I'm mistaken.

A bit of research shows that the parts look slightly different on the back of the mirrors.

Here is the W208:

W208
W208

Now here is the W209:

W209
W209

and also 2 different part numbers but Mercedes-Benz says that the W209 mirror will fit the W208 on both of these parts.

this one is priced at $478: https://mbparts.mbusa.com/oem-parts/...UtNWwtdjgtZ2Fz

and this one is $158: https://mbparts.mbusa.com/oem-parts/...UtNWwtdjgtZ2Fz

Very odd.

New mirror to stick over the discolored one.

I paid $11.00 for a replacement stick-on mirror found on line. Fit perfectly. Problem solved in 30 seconds. I can live with the silly dimming feature!
