Sound when unlocking & locking car
I remember when we just bought the CLK 3 years ago, it made a sound when unlocking & locking the car.
When I took ownership of the car 2 years ago, the sound was not there. The car is silent when unlocking/locking the car.
I kinda like the fact that it made a sound when locking/unlocking the car.
Here is what I'm talking about.
I took these videos a few years back.

Do you guys know how to get the sound back?

your vacuum pump which controls the locking and unlocking (located in the trunk behind the right hand-side panel) is probably getting a little old......that's why there's no more sound.

There hasn't been any sound for over 2 years. I think my sister left the lights on all night accidently and the batt. was dead in the morning. So I think it may have caused the silence.
I know my dad had plenty of CLK's at his dealership and none of them had any sound when locking/unlocking car.

oh......i thought jessica meant the clunking sound when the doors lock and unlock.....stupid me.
are you guys referring to the beeping sound when the car locks and unlocks?
If so, that is programmable. I forget how to do it, but RAREAMG's car does it too.
There is a very old thread I read a long while back which explains how to program that feature on and off......
it makes sense that when your car battery died, the sound went away, because it has to be re-programmed.

looked into this,
you gotta go to the dealer and have them change the REAR SAM module to netherlands for it to beep, but you will loose your panic feature.

ima call dealer and ask, cheers
p.s Jessica , how you been? we need to catch up

2000 CLK 430
That is a really cool feature and i would like my car to have that option. I read through some of the other posts on the forum and it sounds like i have to go to the dealer and have them use their Star/computer tool and have them change the Rear SAM module to country Netherlands. Anyone can confirm? Anyone have a tool to try it out?

Uhhhhhh my car is a '99 CLK430 US model and it does it. The siren for the beep is just behind the front bumper on the frame on the driver side. You have to drop the bottom underbody panel on the bumper to get to it.
Mine wouldn't stop beeping at me so I unplugged it and took it completely out of the car.

Maybe it will be helpfull to share my experience with you. When I bought the car (second hand) there was no sound. I do not know if it was a coincidence but some days later, the sound came on. I thought that it had something to do with the key. I tried several combinations to silent the sound, with no help. The only thing I discovered, is that if you keep the unlock key pressed in for some time, it opens the sun roof and lowers the windows.
