Car shut down, Any thoughts?????
My car just shut down today. When I tried to re-start it sounded like it was out of gas. I was sitting in traffic for a while but the temp didn't go above 190
I have 82k on her and havn't changed the anti frezze yet.
It's all orginal, water pump, thermosat etc. I let it cool down for at least a half an hour maybe a little longer and it started up.
I noticed the temp did climb anytime I stopped. Never above 185.
I thought the anti frezze was supposed to be changed every 100-150K.
I hope I didn't make that up in my head...
Is there an auto shut off when the temp gets to high? That's what it seemed like when I tried to start it.

I just posted a similar story in the CLK 55 forum. Faulty CPS (crank position sensor or is it crankshaft position sensor). Search for pigman's recent posts and the follow-ups for your answer.

CPS Replacement
Thanks for the info. That sounds like the problem it wasn't even trying to fire up just cranking away... I didn't get CEL though and it happen twice.
I want to replace it my self, is it a big deal?
What type of coolant would you suggest? I am under the impression CLK's have a special MB coolant, is that right?
