Clk430 Vs Pontiac Firebird
I'm curious fellas......can the 430 take on a 1999 Pontiac Firebird "Formula V8"? The Firebird have a LT-1 Engine. I know this is the same engine as the Corvette, but the weight ratios, dynamics and mechanism of the car is different and the hp I'm sure is different too.

NO! LOL. I found that out one night. I pulled away from start but towards the higher speeds, the guy was on my @$$ and pulled away from me w/ no problem.

damn!
the reason i want to know is b/c I have a co-worker own a Firebird and he want to race me for fun. All of my other co-workers said my car is faster. Just don't want to disappoint some people, let a lone embarass my self. I never said my car was fast. However when I said I'll race his car with my Corvette he said no.
I did beat a SVT mustang with the 430 a while ago.

You beat an SVT with your 430? I've only raced a GT with my 430 and it was easy. ...but I thought the SVT has some punch to it?
You know what's ironic is that I was cruising on the freeway this morning and a WRX wagon was keeping up with me @ around 130. It still makes me wonder what kind of mods the guy has under his hood because I should have had no problems pulling away from him if both cars are stock...but then again, there's that stupid 135mph speed limit for the CLK430.
Let us know what happens with the Firebird. Maybe something's wrong with my car...

The guy in the SVT must have been fooling around. That car will eat the CLK alive. So will the LT1 firebird/camaro, and especially the newer LS1 firebird/camaro.
Anyone beating muscle cars with their CLK is going up against some real rookie drivers.

yeah.....couple months ago these two guys in there black SVT want to know how fast my clk was. So to make a long story short, I took the challenged to see what my car can do. Never thought I could beat an SVT, but out of my surprised I beat it. We race in a high way from start to quater mile. First race he punch it! wow! I can hear the roar of his engine in my car. At this point the front end of my car was positions next to his door. In the mid-way of the quater mile that's when the clk stretches it legs. Caught up with him and the front of my car cript up nose to nose and finally my front end passed his nose about 2 1/2" in length. I was so suprised! The only thing I mod my car, I added te K&N filter.
To redeam there pride he asked for another race. I just told them naaah...I better stop while i'm on top of my game. So I don't know if I can beat the firebird, I heard there are a little faster than the Mustangs.

I heard from someone that only the US-spec 430's have the governor at 135 because of the softer suspension setup. Other world-version CLK430's have the governor set at 155mph.
It sucks, I know... but I guess for some who have alot of bad luck (like me), I don't mind being restricted to 135mph.

I got my ECU custom tuned by a Porsche tuner who comes over from Germany specifically to do ECUs for Ferraris, Porsches, and Benzos. Without the limiter, I got up to 159mph, and it felt solid as a rock. Don't think I wouldh have felt safe doing that on the stock suspension, though.

Come on, a Firebird VS a CLK. Just Supercharge it already and pull up to C5's or Z06's and just laugh. Thats what I did and I cannot tell you how many "Joey's" I have crushed in their vetts. I love my CLK I drive it everyday with a HUGE

compete to win huh........well i asked my co-worker if he want to race my Z06 Corvette + more minor mod. He said "No way!" without a hesitation. I just want to see how close of a race b/w my 430 and his bird.

My CLK320 does 250 kmh at 5000 RPM. Thats somewhere around the 155 mph mark isnt it?
