Just my luck

So I've only had my car out of the shop since January and all ready it has to go back in. I was driving home the other day when I ran over someones step bumper from their truck that had fallen off. Luckily though I'm able to file a comp claim with my insurance and only have to pay my deductible without my rates going up. But the only thing I'm worried about it is my front bumper not being stock, I don't know if the insurance company will say something about that.

The damage is ugly, it tore through the front bumper, the sideskirt, messed up both rims, and knocked the sideskirt lose by breaking some clips. And now my suspension is completely gone. here's some pics I took (ignore how dirty the car is, its been raining ) Sorry for large pics my comp wouldnt let me resize for some reason

Ouch, that sucks. The insurance should replace what you have, but the problem you may run into is if the parts you have on the car, cost more than stock parts from the dealer. You should check OE parts prices from the dealer, this will give you a good idea of where you stand.

Its hard for the insurance company to quote repair/replace costs for aftermarket stuff, as its not in their computer system and they are not in the habit of calling around looking for rare or aftermarket parts.

That sucks some big ones! The kit shouldn't be an issue with your insurance company. But be sure to mention your suspension doesn't feel right either.

Hopefully they can do something about your aftermarket bumper. I would hate to go back to stock or buy another aftermarket one and make it fit to the clk again.

Someone recently keyed my car and I will have to repaint most of my drivers side. I will also be filing a comp. claim.

Thanks all. I go today to the body shop to get an estimate. I called him already and he wasn't too happy, course after all that work I don't blame him.

Babyboi- I'm a girl

Jessica- That sux, I would be so pissed. Good luck with all that.

scottster- Did you see a chick riding a skateboard that fell and hit her face on the sidewalk? Cuz that is the only comparison that I see.

Hmm. That's terrible. Sorry to hear that. I avoided some crazy piece of metal flying thru the air just this morning as a matter of fact. It hit the Jetta beside me but I didn't see the damage but I bet there was some.

Insurance. Are they going to cover this? My co. (GEICO) had me fill out a form describing aftermarket parts (and costs) when i got the insurance. They want to know about these parts ahead of time, not after an accident/incident. I don't know where this will leave you but I sure hope they'll pay to get those parts reimbursed/repaired.

Good luck!

Ooooh ok. I get it now, now it makes sense! Sometimes things fly over my head and it takes me a couple times before I get it. Now that I get it its a great comparison

I bet there was some damage, lucky for you it missed you. As far as I know they are going to cover it. I'm going to go to my body shop and get an estimate from him first and then have the insurance adjuster look at the car. I am a little worried about the bumper not being stock but we'll see. I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope that they don't say anything. I'll find out on Tuesday.

Boosted- I go to Vicious Auto Body out in Gresham going towards Troutdale. He's a good friend of my good friend, and is the one who did all the work on my car already. He wasn't too happy when I told him about the damage.

I think I've heard of that place. Seems one of our customers goes there too or something.

Insurance shouldn't complain about the front bumper not being stock. I was hit by a truck in my BMW and they had no problem replacing my aftermarket wheels and tires. The aftermarket parts are probably cheaper than the OEM stuff anyway.

Ya he does alot of low rider stuff. He's won awards for some of the paint/mural work that he's done. He's really good at what he does, eventually when I have the whole car repainted I'm going to have him do it.

I'm going to get an estimate from the body shop first so hopefully that way they defnintely don't screw me on my parts. We'll find out on Tuesday.

Imphaded- my avatar is close enough to a real pic of me minus my hair is shorter, so that should be good enough for now!!!! Sorry no real pic yet, plus my bf would kill me if he knew I put a real pic of myself on here!!!!

So I saw the insurance adjuster today and well it turned out alot better than I feared. The body shop guy said that the front bumper could be repaired but the insurance guy said that he would replace it. He also paid for more labore time than the body shop quoted AND they are going to pay for two brand new rims for the passenger side, all I have to do is have the body shop send then an invoice with the price of the rims because the guy couldn't find them and he knows that they have to be expensive. So I have that planned out and just might be in the market for 20's here pretty quick. And it turns out that my alignement and camber are way off but the mechanic shop didn't seem to find anything wrong with the suspension, so I guess thats good. So pretty soon I'll be bringing the car back to the body shop.

Ya I really like the pic that I use for my avatar, I thought that it looked pretty close to me before I cut my hair, so I used that so that way I wouldn't get in trouble from the bf for putting a real pic of me on here. If you don't want to put that pic in the living room, I think that it would make for a good bathroom pic. How about that idea??

If that picture was hanging in my dining room during dinner with my date, there would be no conversation and dinner would be cut short in favor of my favorite room of all.......maybe thats where it should go ?
