'01 vs '00 Differences ?

Look to buy a '00 or '01 CLK 430. Found a low mileage '00 well option and wanted to know if there is anything different from the two years. What are people seeing low mileage '00s with K3 and K4 going for ?

no significant difference. The gear shift knobs look different and the the 01 has a one touch closure of the sun-roof. I believe tha is all. For W208, you want to stay away from the 99 and 98. from 00 onwards is okay.

The 2000 has a black exhaust tip, while the 2001 is chrome. Besides that, there is no difference.
A low mile 2000 CLK-430 will run between $40,000-42,500 and a 2001 between $42,500-45,000.

Really??? I have a MY '02 CLK430, and I still have to hold the dam button to close the sun-roof. I only have auto open.

I better check the manual.

Just get the new mirrors and change the exhaust tip to a chrome one and your car will look like a 2000-2002.

'01 I believe has (like BMWs) the windows that roll down slightly when you open the door and roll up slightly after the door is closed, '00 doesn't.....can anyone confirm? my '00 doesn't, my cousin's '01 does.

Safet, My 01 windows do roll down when the door is opened. I dunno anything about the 00's.
What is the advantage of this anyway?

mmgrad, you do have to hold the button to close the roof...it only opens automatically......for safety reasons i guess.

My 02 windows roll down a bit when the doors open too, it creates better weather guard protection, and since it is frameless, this helps to reduce the road noise as well.

as for the sunroof, yeah, i figure it was only 1-touch open. I just thought i was missing out on something since Ted says it has 1-touch close (assuming he is referring to his car).

I guess we'll just ignore the chrome around the windows and the blinking side markers in the fenders? (on CLK430 models)

Mine doesn't have any chrome around the windows or blinking side markers in the fenders as you can see in the CLK-Class (W208) picture tread page 26.

The advantage of the slight rolling down is that it makes it easier to close the door: the '00 windows don't roll down slightly when the door is open, thus when you close the door, you have to press harder to close it, but if you leave the sunroof slightly open you don't have to. I think it's the buildup of air pressure inside the cabin that doesn't let the door close properly unless you press hard on it. That's the advantage to the window opening slightly when you open the door and rolling up again after the door is closed.

Ummm, yeah... cuz if you read the thread, you'll see I was responding to a post about the mirrors that are not on a 1999... and making it look like a 2000+ model, which is what you have right? They don't have blinking side markers.

Sorry it went off-topic. But pay attention please!

Although some of the pre-2000 430 models don't have chrome, either.

..............i have an 00 not 01. Ia few years ago I asked the dealer what the difference was between 00 and o1 and one of the things he said was the express roll up sunroof. I didn't really care for this option as I thought it might be unsafe. In any case, it seems I need not have worried because it appears the dealer was wrong. Won't be the first the folks at RBM of Atlanta have given wrong info.

the main difference i know of is the smartkey is the new (smaller one) and the window will automatically roll down (just a little) when you open the doors. Other than those two it's virtually the same.

oh yeah, 01 and 02 have better sound proofing too.

Darn it, now I know why my C43 doesn't have the speedo function in the cluster--I got a 2000 CLK cluster. Must get 2001. Thanks for the info.

.........Actually, the key does not matter. I have an 00 and recently got a new key. The key is the smaller smart key and works just fine for y 00 CLK. Actually, with 00, you also get a nice thin wallet electronic key you can carry in your wallet as a spare. It is very thin and does not distent your wallet. It also has a metal key attached to it. I understand Mb discontinued these in 01 for cost reasons.

Yeah, it has COMAND too... and a multifunction steering wheel. Reminds me of my CLK when I drive it, which was the idea!

my sister has the thin key too. i have no idea what is for. i thought it was for the dealer, so they can get you a new key when you lost the original key.

yes the size of the smart key does not matter a whole lot. my brother's friend just recently sold his 99 C230k. He had a smart key replaced with the newer key.
