1999 CLK 430 Coupe
![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I recently bought a 99 CLK 430 which is still under factory warranty. Noticed that it consumes a lot of oil so took it into Phil Smart in Seattle (who btw have been very attentive). They have been doing oil consumption testing on it. Apparently MB standards for the 113 engine state that consumption of .8 litres every 1000 km is within MB specs and nothing is wrong with the engine.
Although I am still going through the testing and hope they will replace the engine once the testing is complete - I find it amazing and frankly disappointing to think that I am going to add at least a quart of oil every 1000 miles over the course of driving it over the next few years.
Are there any CLK 430 owners out there that have experienced this problem - if so any thoughts...
Thanks
KT

My 2K 430 used virtually *no* oil. I have had a quart of Mobil 1 in the garage, gathering dust, for over two years. That's 10-15K (Times 3) miles w/out adding oil. Unbelievable.
Good luck.

Burns NONE
I have a '99 with 32K on it. Have run synthetic from the start. Only drive 200 miles a month. Figured I'd burn a little here and there but it's a solid engine.

MBWorld Fanatic!
A quarter of oil every 1,000 miles, if you use the FSS system for oil change intervals, you'll run out of oil before 10,000 miles! I dont think so. That engine needs new piston rings, and probably has more miles than you think.

Problem Resolved
Engine oil consumption testing completed and PS Seattle is ordering me a brand new engine. Will be installed in a week or so. Great news - car has 45,000 miles and I get a new engine.

No longer car shopping...

I'm shopping for a new car and I sure hope FUBAR's not selling because that's one engine I DON'T want (15K between oil changes?). Even synthetics are supposed to be changed every now and then fella.

Followin' the scheduled maint pgm. I have taken it in early (before the recommendation) every time. I was really freaked out myself, but i figgered as long as I follow the rules, they have to honor the warranty (100K miles). Have never kept a car for that long, so...
