as i was driving a little hard today whenthe car shifted gear i heard a squeak which sounded like a belt slip then i got hit with 3 malfuctions 1.abs 2.brakes 3.battery/alternator... i pulled over restarted car and malfuction 1 and 2 were gone but the battery/alternator malfunction now remains. the car is running perfectly. any body nows whats going on?? can i reset this malfuction?

The first thing I'd check is whether your car was included in the voltage regulator recall. If so, the second thing I'd check is if the recall had been performed. Mine was, and it was.

If you have a volt meter you can check voltage at the battery while the car is running. If you see 12 volts, rather than 14, your regulator or your alternator may be toast.

The good news is, an OEM votage regulator is about $65 at the dealer ($80 without the MBCA discount). If the alternator is dead, those can be rebuilt for under $100.

yeah well i got screwed...it left me on the bridge. i had to get flatbeded to my mechanic. my alternator was gone... total fix $730. thanks for all the help.

Did you check with MB to see if your vin is flagged for the recall that Marcus mentioned? My MB tech said that the recall covers the voltage regulator and can sometimes be extended to the entire alternator as well. Seemed like an odd statement, but that's what he said. Maybe you can get compensated to a certain extent if it's part of the recall.
