Post So... you think your CLK's rattles and squeaks are bad??

I took my car to the dealership on Monday, 1/6/2003, for the following complaints:

- Sunroof squeaks when I tilt it.
- Sunroof rattles when it's in the open position
- Passenger side seat groans loudly when seat is moved forward or backward
- Speedo needle is "sticky" at around 80mph.
- Rear shelf squeaks all the time
- Car doesn't start on 1st try, engine grunts

All these "problems" are all under warranty. These are the things that they did to fix them. The most important part is how much it cost to fix these "squeaks."

- Sunroof squeaks when I tilt it.
- Sunroof rattles when it's in the open position
---Replace sunroof and sunroof track.
- Passenger side seat groans loudly when seat is moved forward or backward
----Replace seat track, motor, and microswitches
- Speedo needle is "sticky" at around 80mph.
----Replace speedo console (entire thing)
- Rear shelf squeaks all the time
----Replace hat shelf and put some felt where shelf contacts body
- Car doesn't start on 1st try, engine grunts
----Applied special lubricant to ring gear.

TOTAL COST (if I didn't have warranty): ~$3,500

Car driving tight, like new: Priceless, of course.

I picked up the car on Thursday afternoon, 1/9/2003, after driving around in a W210 E320.

Now I can bring the car to a bodyshop so I can have them install the new Lorinser decklid spoiler, soon to come!!

You are one of the fortunate ones that get the rattles/squeakes fixed....I took mine in for some minor squeaking sound coming from the backseat. Nothing has improved, so I just turn my music really really loud....Not a bad solution actually

Gotta love those warranties!!!! I got my passenger seat squeaks fix under warranty and without it i would of been out $600!!!

Lamay,

i tried your solution too, it worked for a little while.... then i could hear it again, so i turn it up even louder....and it would come back.... then louder.... you get the picture.... Finally could not stand it anymore and got off my lazyass and got a new stereo system!!!!

Hey xyzpl,

Which dealer did you go to get the squeaking sound fixed? Those minor problems are starting to get on my nerves, but just afraid that the dealer is going to make it worst.

Penske in West Covina, I live right up the hill so it was my only choice. Hate to drive to Pasadena....

They've been pretty ok with me, just 1 major screwup in the past couple of years... Nothing happened to my car, it's just that they lost my car for a week.... and it ended up on there lot 10 ft away from the service garage...

Other than that they've taken pretty good care of mat cars.

1- My car dashboard was squeaking against the windshield. Took it to MB they put some felt in between. Problem solved.
2- After installed H&R springs a year ago, A clicking noise developed on the left rear side....still living with it.

I have only put 277 miles on our Project CLK since we bought it, so I actually have no idea if it squeaks or not.

This is my biggest complaint about my recent purchase of a CLK; interior noise! I have systematically tried to take apart the interior and trunk to isolate these noises. I have gotten most of the squeeks elimanted, I have no warranty left, but have one little irritating squeek coming from the back seat/shelf area. If I fold the rear seats down, it goes away and will not squeek for a day or so after folding them back into the upright position. But ultimately will start to squeek again. Which leads me to believe it is not the rear shelf area. Any ideas on this little irritation? Most everything else seems great...I still love this car!

I also had the first start-up trouble, but just had my mechanic lube the starter gear and solved the problem.

They lost your car? Interesting. I'll be moving to SoCal in a few months, I think I'll have to start considering a dealer to which I will bring my car for these little squeaks and rattles and other warranty work.

The starter gear lacking lubricant is common. I think I read that either from this forum or the other MB forum.

I do not have any ideas on the back seat squeak. The first thing I could think of is the locking mechanism on the back seat? More grease?
