Ok so I have a 2000 clk430 cabriolet and I just put on a set of 20x8.5 front and 20x9.5 rear ..front tires are 225 35 20 and rears are 245 35 20 no issues other than an ever so slight rub on front plastic briefly when 1st turning but once past that very small section while turning it doesn't rub. And again it's so minimal that I'm not worried about it. Mind you I have brand new tires so I'd bet after a little wear there would be no rub. You definitely could modify the plastic but in my case it's just not worth the effort as it poses no safety or bother issues for me. I think the 20s look fine and fit without any modification.
